Hi Gabriel8, I use the Samsung health app to monitor my health and diet (when I can )Most smart phones come with very useful free health apps.

You can capture the different foods eaten daily, water intake, exercise, current weight and target weight. It breaks the information down to calories and macronutrients (Protein, Carbs, Fats) and recommends target calories per day to achieve your target weight. It will be up to you to figure out the right diet for you.

I follow the standard well balanced diet but I’m more mindful to avoid my food intolerances like diary and gluten (I experience bloating and heart burn when I consume these). I recently reduced my refined sugar intake and my food cravings have reduced. I also experimenting with more protein, more vegetables and less carbs.

The apps are quite helpful, though it can be a challenge to remember to capture everything you eat/drink daily. While smart watch easily capture your excercise\movements and can be quite beneficial to improving our wellbeing

Best wishes and enjoy the journey

Thank you so much for the information.

I have been cutting out the sugars and exercising more. Sometimes I feel I need a pick me up, as I’ve been having the shakes after exercise.

Hi Gabriel8

I recommend the Weight Watchers (WW) App which is a lot more than just weight loss App; It’s very comprehensive with many features.

There is a Virtual Workshop Coach on there who has Lupus (& other health conditions); She’s lost over 100lbs, her weight loss blog is on You Tube.

WW isn’t free, there are different membership types & often deals/offers available. The highest level is the best one to have as it gives you access to every feature on there, eg …..

~ Community forum (called ‘Connect’) - support, camaraderie, ideas.

~ Virtual Workshops - camera/sound off if preferred. You can attend as many of these as you like as well as In-person ones if there are any in your area

~ Various groups - eg hobbies, pets, age/illness/gender, books, etc, etc

~ Exercise classes for all abilities

~ Mental, physical, support/encouragement, sleep, positivity videos etc

~ Daily food, exercise & sleep tracker

~ Recipes, food barcode scanner, anything food/drink related, cook-a-longs, inspiration, eating out guide, photos of other members’ meals/snacks.

This is just a brief summary but it really does have everything to assist anyone who is struggling to lose some weight for whatever reason.

I have been following WW for 35+ years, never been massively overweight but predisposed to weight gain despite participating in sport, fitness & exercise since childhood & eating extremely healthily. Being 5ft 1” doesn’t help either!

I got to my Goal Weight 8 years ago after losing 3 stones & have kept it off ever since by remaining a member & sticking to the plan (which does change every now & then).

If you’re aiming to lose or maintain weight, no food or drink is off limits providing it’s counted within your allocated allowance aka ‘Points.’ Obviously, the WW plan is designed to steer members towards a nutritious, healthy, filling, satisfying & sustainable way of eating which also enables weight loss or maintenance with scientific backed evidence.

My natural way of eating is low fat/fat free & sugar free, (retired Dental Nurse). I prefer to eat a varied, well balanced selection of foods & have never liked fast foods or takeaways, preferring to cook from scratch.

I’m far from perfect, do sometimes overindulge & occasionally have very fattening, ‘naughty’ foods like cake, chocolate, scones & non-slimming bread!

I drink a lot of water, only have decaffeinated tea/coffee, enjoy some herbal teas & don’t drink alcohol. 😇

I have a lot of gut issues, (am under GI consultant), recently followed the FODMAP Diet religiously for 8 weeks to help identify any ‘trigger’ foods, but nothing came to light. My Coeliac test was negative also.

I haven’t discovered that any particular food aggravates or alleviates my SLE but we’re all different.

Good luck to you 🙂
