Hi

I have Lupus plus another couple of auto immune disorders. My question is to anyone who has had Covid. I’m on my 14th day positive. How long has anyone else tested positive for.

Thankyou

Patients who are immunosuppressed tend not to clear the virus as quickly as others who are otherwise healthy - so they test positive for longer. And you may test posiitive because of leftover bits of dead virus in your upper respiratory system.

Thank you for taking the time to respond to me. I wasn’t aware of that. I will continue to isolate as I have a family member on immunosuppressants and hopefully get a negative result soon.

12 for me. It was longer than any of my peers. I didn't seek any medical advice as I felt good. I put it down to the action of my immunosuppressants

Thanks for your reply The few people I know that have had it were positive for 5 days. I’m crossing my fingers for a negative result.

It was 8 days for me and my husband cleared in 7 so it was only 1 day longer for me. Actually went to a very faint line by day 6

Thank you for reply my husband took 12 days. I’m hoping mine will clear soon.

I was 18 days although I was feeling better by 14. It took 2 months to compleatly get over it as the cough was slow to clear even with antibiotics and steroids . Hope yours clears soon.

Hi Star 13

I’m glad you’re finally over yours. It’s horrible isn’t it. I got a negative today. It makes you feel so drained doesn’t it.

Best wishes

I tested positive for 14 days and most likely had covid for a couple of days prior to my first positive test. My husband (who does not have any AI disorders) tested negative much earlier than I.

This was back in March. Having Covid affected my already wonky digestive system. Haven’t been the same since. Still haven’t gotten my appetite back. I hope you have a full recovery!

Yes thanks. It was like 'proper' 'flu, taking a few weeks to get back to normal. I hope you're feeling better now.

Hi Tykle

Every bit of me hurts although I feel much better. I feel tired and find I am having to pace myself. I think like you it will take a while to get back to normal.

Pacing yourself is the best thing. I hope you will soon be back to normal. Take care of yourself.

Note that LFTs (lateral flow tests) and RATs (rapid antigen tests as often called in the US) for COVID are not perfect!

One can still remain infectious despite having a negative result as one doc explained!

If previously positive and now negative the nasal swab may not be picking up enough viruses/virus particles in the nostrils to give a positive result.

The tests are not sensitive enough to do so.

As Dr Jeremy Rossman says “these self administered tests are NOT sensitive enough to pick up low amounts/low loads of covid virus in the nose hence one could still be infectious to others” through coughing, sneezing, talking etc at others!

Hence for the immunosuppressed through medication eg MMF one must still be careful and shield from those who vehemently assert their covid negativity!🧐

There’s also the problem with false negatives!

Take care!

That seems quite long but not exceptional. 12 days is not unusual. Try not to worry too much, get lots of rest and plenty of fluids. Obviously if it doesn’t clear soon get in touch with your doctor! COVID is a strange illness. It seems to affect different people in different ways. Get well soon 🌸

Hi I had covid in April it was 6 days positive faint line on 7th day negative on 8th. This was my first with covid. I'm a support worker I worked with covid service users in the first year of covid lockdown uk , I never caught it. I've got covid again. I checked when ours friends warned us they had covid. I checked as I felt symptoms. From day one of testing I had a faint line I'm on day 7 still with faint line. I'm isolating as I have elderly relative in a nursing home. I feel so guilty as I can't visit her. Hope I get a negative soon. I still feel ill with it. Hope you get your negative soon 14 days seems like a long time to still be positive.
