just read that this drug can help Lupus sufferers. Anyone know anything other than the basics? It is reported to help with arthritis pain, works on T cells so infections won’t necessarily cause our bodies to turn against us. Used for type 2 diabetes, it works in the kidneys, so not for everyone, and can help with weight loss. Maybe some hope for a drug that is already approved and maybe available. I assume this would be in place of hydroxychloroquine? Would like to know more if anyone has first hand information x

canagliflozin hope?
A recent study at Swansea Uni has suggested it could be of help but further research is required. the advantage is that if it is effective on T cell activity in autoimmune conditions it wouldn't need as long in trials as it already has a safety profile in humans. The disadvantage is that someone needs to research it further - which relies on the drug company deciding whether using it for autoimmune conditions would be profitable enough for them to invest in the research. It may be that the kidney element might make it a problem for treating Lupus. Either way I suspect it would be years before it was made available for another purpose. it would still be quicker to come to market than a new drug though.
lets face it, we need something in place of Hydroxychloroquine with this Zentiva farce going on!
