Hello Everyone. I became dizzy last week and slam dunked on the kitchen floor. My shoulder took the hit. I tore my rotator cuff very badly and so after X-rays, MRI I’m scheduled for surgery next week. One minute literally laughing and the next on the floor. GP says dizziness was sudden movement from sitting to standing. It has a name but I’m exhausted with medical words so I’ll just say low blood pressure.
The pain is intense and if there were any other way to solve this mess, I would. But the injury is truly acute. Does anyone have tips or advice to recover well with lupus? For the first time I’m very nervous about a major flare afterwards and the nagging oral thrush I have under control finally but will surely be tested with the antibiotics that I will be given. I'm so sorry you are in this predicament and in such pain. I don't have any specific tips unfortunately, other than to eat well and stay hydrated - all the usual stuff.Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be along shortly to help, especially where factoring in the drugs you are on is concerned . Stay strong and try not to worry too much (easier said than done!).
And maybe explain to those helping you with physio and rehab post-surgery what your condition does to limit the extent to which you can ordinarily exercise without triggering flares. That way they can tailor your physiotherapy programme appropriately to get that shoulder strong again but without stressing you too much in terms of the underlying condition.
Not very savvy at posting links, but I just saw this person on the lupus site updating about recent knee surgery. They have lupus and sjorgrens and are on steroids.
They say they were given extra steroids and transferred to HDU rather than an ordinary ward post op. All went well.
Maybe you could contact them for advice? Just a thought.
Postural hypotension Mrs M ? Happened to mum my in Feb when she went out for her lunch.No advice I'm afraid but just want to wish you well and a speedy recovery. I'm possibly facing reconstruction surgery on my ankle so will be interested in any tips just in case .
Thanks I completely tore my ATFL in a fall in Dec. Orthopaedic consultant reluctant to operate due to immunosuppressants and want advice from the lupus centre at Manchester who would like a decision 🤷♀️ xx

Oh my goodness, ouch - that’s some injury. I hope they’ve your BP under control a bit more now. I’ve nothing of any note to add, as others have said - as long as everyone who is treating you knows everything they need to know, they’ll have a plan of action if needed. Plus, the power of good rest, fluids, doing the physio. All of which I’m sure you’ll do anyway as I recall you take v good care of yourself ordinarily.
