Why is Uvistat the only prescription sunscreen

When you're entitled to SPF50+ sunscreen on prescription, why is the only option such a thick cream that it damages skin when applied?

I fortunately had enough Sunsense to last me until now and have only just been prescribed Uvistsat.

It is so thick that when I tried to spread it across my skin it caused my skin to peel away. I do have areas of damaged skin and am horrified at the scabs I will have form now where my skin has torn and bled.

It is also the most awful stuff to try and wash off.

Surely the nhs should have other options than a prescription that causes more harm than good.

I know there are numerous products on the market, but the cost, especially when you are eligible for a prescription is not something everyone can accomodate.

I was wondering this too just had my first script and it’s made my skin erupt with ple, so not using again I’m scraping the the last sunsense I had.. just ordered ALTRUIST off amazon to try 2bottles for £10 and found info on lupus Uk.. 🤞🤞

My rheumatologist wanted me to have sunsense but when the GP tried to prescribe it it wasn't available so I was given uvistat instead. When I got home I noticed it was only AVA 3* and I'd been told by my rheumatologist that I needed to use at least a 4*. Think I'll try buying a different option.

Totally agree 👍 solo99 It is very dense and everything I touch when I have it on gets stained and it's difficult to clean. Also if you sweat you get a whitish water because it doesn't absorb well.

Try Altruist. Really nice, gentle, and it is cheap.

I use a 50 plus sensitive childs one form Aldi, around 3.99 xx

Yes, it’s awful stuff. I’ve just been told by my surgery too that it’s Uvistat or nothing. It’s so thick, even for a physical sunblock. Plus, it is covering clothes in thick white paste when you put it on in the correct dose. You wonder if they’re using the worst one just to stop us from ordering it on prescription...🤔 .

Back to buying and testing again - if they don’t cause rashes or skin cracking then they make my eyes stream… sick of wasting money (giving away my tested tubes) and checking out ingredients lists! Can’t recommend anything personally - but I’ll try the Altruist one and the Aldi that’s been recommended 🤞🏻

Like this whole journey isn't hard enough. I've just received my order of altruist, so too soon for me to say anything about it, but I am so grateful for the advise, empathy and understanding my post generated that I'm holding on to the positive from it

Exactly that - I was relieved to read your post and all the helpful replies people have left as it’s helped me out too. So, I’m thankful you posted this. I do hope the Altruist is good for you as your skin isn’t left in too much of a mess and you heal soon too ✨
