Latex allergy

Why can't hospitals be totally Latex free? I have had to go to uneccessary a pre assessment yesterday and next week to the OR as a day patient for a simple procedure, all because I have a latex allergy, if they were latex free it would be in the long term much more cost effective.

The NHS has been moving to latex-free for years but some of the problem is supply

supplychain.nhs.uk/news-art....

This

torbayandsouthdevon.nhs.uk/...

mentions the primary problem - some essential items in the healthcare world simply aren't available in a latex-free form, And given the problems with PPE over the last 3 years - I have no doubt that the situation worsened in terms of supply.

I just think that there are so many people on waiting lists when mine is such a quick biopsy.

I agree… it would be so much more cost effective and time saving/life saving to switch over to latex free everything/everywhere so no one is delayed in services and diagnoses/treatments can happen ASAP.

I’m sorry you are delayed in your process to be diagnosed.

Hang in there…hopefully someone soon will change things over to latex free in the near future.

Take care be safe.

Thank you, up to now the biopsy is hopefully taking place next Wednesday. I am feeling quite calm at the moment about it, after all I have lived an extra 34 years more than i was ever told at age if 22 when i was 1st ill with lupus

Sorry Cal that you’ve got lupus. My dad’s family is riddled with it. I suspect I have it too but no need to test this late in life won’t make a difference just another diagnosis w/o a cure added to the heap.

I pray that your biopsy is negative for anything bad. I pray your needs be met and treatment found soon.

Take care and be safe.

Love and prayers

Thanks, I feel more positive than my sister, but I don't know how I will feel at the time on Wednesday. I will remember your positive vibes to keep me going.

Most welcome my friend. I’m here if you need more positivity.

My brother passed last month atm am trying to settle multiple issues to get him buried and do a memorial service.

I will reply if you reach out to me albeit there might be a little delay.

Take care Cal.

I totally agree - I have a latex allergy which seems to be getting worse as time goes on. I had a really scary experience when in hospital last year with a latex dressing when my arm ballooned and heartbeat went haywire. It's a common allergy and the NHS needs to sort it.

I only found out about by chance. I was gardening and put a new pair of gloves on, had a twitchy nose rubbed it and blisters appeared on my lips and a metallic taste, so threw them away & weeks later I was told that it was a bad reaction so don't put myself in danger now.
