dressinggown_fan profile image

Hi All

New to this forum but have already found so much information and support ❤️

Does anyone have any personal recommendation for a rheumatologist - fortunate to have private health cover so happy to travel, but ideally chester/wrexham/wirral area xx

Hello, my Husband sees a lady Rheumatologist called Dr Price at the Haywood Hospital, Burslem, North Staffordshire; He rates her highly. I do not know if she sees private patients though as he is an NHS patient.

I am also seen by the same excellent Rheumatology team for my Lupus at the same hospital. Between us, any of the Rheumatology Doctors we have seen have all been outstanding. (Dr Packham, Dr Menon, Dr Ashworth, Dr Anjum & others whose I don’t know as they are Juniors &/or locums).

Hope you find someone appropriate. 👩🏻‍⚕️

I noticed on bupa consultant finder that two of the rheumatologists mentioned take private patients.

If you have a 'chronic condition' diagnosis check your private health insurance as I had Bupa for years but once diagnosed with Lupus and Sjogrens they cut any funding for anything to do with those conditions. As a result I stopped paying as I am sure they would try and tie in any future illness with the Lupus and Sjogrens so I thought it wasn't worth paying. It's a real pain but I put money away now in order to use when I need it for private appointments and pay myself although as I am seeing several consultants per year it does start to get expensive.

I’m with Bupa too through hubby’s work. With our policy they don’t cover ongoing issues (we used to be with Aviva and they covered absolutely everything 😭) but the last person I spoke to said they would cover flare-ups, so it might be worth checking that with another person there.

I think if it's a business policy it may have different parameters. You may be ok, but a personal policy with bupa definitely didn't cover chronic illness. Be good if you got it it in writing if you are covered so you don't get any unexpected big bill in the future maybe.
