Hi,

I would want to know if anyone here is taking the Hydroxychloroquin medication by Bristol UK? And if she /he has had any skin reactions while using it?

Hi Knowledgeispower1I have been taking the Bristol Hydroxychloroquine for over 2 years now. Its the only one that I can take because it doesn't contain lactose.

I haven't had any problems with it.

It might be worth talking to the pharmacist or even doctor. There are lots of other brands that you can try.

I hope you manage to sort it out.

Thats interesting, I didn’t know that about the lactase, I’ve started taking a lactase enzyme tablet which is like a magic tablet for me. The only thing I don’t like is the horrible taste from the Bristol one,, not as bad as the quinoric though. I don’t really get a choice which one I get, I like the zentivia as it’s not so nasty taste wise.

My pharmacist has been really good and only gives me the same brand each time . My doctors surgery got in touch with him when I was first prescribed it to make sure that he only gives me that brand.I did take the lactase tablets but found they didn't help me.

I think we are all learning as we go along with this condition.

Hope you are keeping as well as you can.

Thank you JCZW, I’ve only started trying the lactase tablets and I had my first cup of coffee in costa without a problem, it’s a pity they stopped doing the milk that I could take, I’m allergic to soya and find the others don’t taste nice. Looking forward to a bowl of ice cream, well fingers crossed anyway. Take care and thanks for replying.

I have taken it for 10years. I think my skin rash is caused by my lupus. I don't have any problem with it.

Hello. I’ve been taking hxy for 7 years but can’t take Bristol. It makes me feel awful. I try to get Zentiva but that is the most expensive and pharmacies will try and give you cheaper brands. Recently I’ve tried Accord and that seems to be ok. It’s just trial and error to find a brand that suits you. Good luck.

I was prescribed hydroxy( don’t know which brand I was prescribed) for suspected sjorgrens. but within24-48hrs I developed a really bad all over body rash. Obviously stopped it and have been told I can never risk it again.

Really annoying as I’m really suffering atm. My eyes, mouth and even nose is really dry& sore. I’m using tubes of dry eye ointment& drops weekly.

Can’t seem to get any sense out of Gp. ANA is now 1:100 as apposed to 1:400 2 yrs ago.

My rheumatology appointments keep getting deferred(usual nhs chaos in wales!) Gp has now written to them to try and get me an appointment asap as I feel so unwell. Being very nauseous for 3 months plus. Endoscopy &CT of abdo clear. Awaiting brain scan. But I’m convinced it’s something systemic…just got to emeait it out😢

it was several years ago so can’t remember the brand I took.but everytime I’ve seen rheumatologist since, she always says “ it’s a pity you’re allergic to hydroxy,as it’s the first line of treatment ,nut you can’t risk taking it again”

Unfortunately I’ve been really ill lately .the Gp is nice but they don’t treat the patient holistically, they just see what’s on the screen at any one given time! Nobody seems to be able to join up the dots😢.

I developed a “shadow” like pigment on my face around the forehead and sides of my face. I don’t know what was the cause but I stayed out of sunlight (by covering up) and reduced hydroxychloroquinine (Bristol brand) to one every other day (as instructed by my consultant). The pigment is still there, but is not spreading or getting darker. Neither my consultant nor I know what’s caused it
