I have had no bother getting Zentiva from my local independent pharmacy. The big chains often say there is a problem. This is usually because they use one supplier and they don’t carry Zentiva. When I was told that it was no longer available I contacted Zentiva myself. They replied saying there were no problems and gave me information for the pharmacy on how to get it. Never had a problem since. Link is to the Zentiva site where you can contact them. Xx
I got the new one last time IPC or similar. I only take three times a week now so 60 tabs lasts a long time, which was an entire time my neck was with sore rash. I got Zentiva again when I told my doctor, so my pharmacy has them.
Come to think of it I'm also okay with the Bristol Pharmaceuticals brand.
my pharmacy was a few extra days fullfilling my prescription but I also got the same one as you. They taste vile compared to the Zentivia.
Thank you Gizmok. that's great 😊
Last Saturday my pharmacy had no supplies of any brand of hydroxychloroquine. I asked if they could get Zentiva and was told no, it was too expensive now. My doctor says it is no longer one of the permitted brands on the nhs Lothian list so she can’t even request it. After seven years on it and having tried others I don’t know what I’m going to do. Has anyone managed to get a private prescription and buy it directly?
O no! That's awful, I'm so sorry, it makes me so angry, it's not like it's a drug that is commonly supplied. Ihope you can sort it out. Maybe write to your MSP? All the best xx
I went back to the pharmacy today having given them time to restock hydroxychloroquine and when I opened the box they’d given me ………Zentiva! I’m delighted of course and have no idea why they decided to give me it.
Agree with other advice here but I’ve been told by an independent pharmacist that Zentiva is simply more expensive than the other brands and that’s why a lot don’t carry it. It’s good to build a bit of a relationship with a pharmacy so you can explain your issue fully as they are often sympathetic.
I wrote a letter to my GP and another to Boots pharmacist. In them I quoted Paul Howard from Lupus UK re the availability of Zentiva and the waste of money to the NHS created by other brands causing side effects for many that have to be treated and/or investigated. It appears big chemist branches like Boots have limited suppliers they use and if those suppliers take Zentiva off their list the chemists using them can’t get it. My GP has agreed to now write ‘Zentiva only’ on my prescriptions for Hydroxychloroquine but also confirmed some chemists won’t be able to get it if their supplier has removed it from thier list. They advised using an independent pharmacy, and our nearest is in Lockerbie 12 miles away, who can access any and all suppliers so can still obtain Zentiva.
Dashing off for an appointment, but I hope this helps. Good luck.
Thank you, Lloyds was the only chemist to dispense it round here, it's going to be tricky, thank you xx
Boots did get it for me until recently. But they did manage to fill my prescription last week with stock they and another Boots branch in the town still had in stock, but from now on it won’t be available to Boots because of their supplier. Lloyds is a chain too so if they use a supplier that won’t stock Zentiva it will be difficult. I hope you can locate an independent pharmacy in your area. 🙏🏻 Good luck. Xx
yes I get it from an independent, was told it was too expensive for Boots and Lloyd's. Good
Hi all,
The chemists get paid a basic reimbursement cost for generic Hydroxychloroquine and if some brands (like Zentiva) are more expensive than others, they will buy the cheaper ones to make more profit on it. However, for the occasional customer, independent chemists often accommodate individual requests.
It may help if you offer to pay the difference between what their reimbursement price is and the cost of the Zentiva.
Hope that helps a
Thank you Ar, it is helpful advice. All the best x
I get it, no problem, the CEO of the arthritis foundation told me she had rung Zentiva and there is no shortage, it's down to the pharmacy x
Hi kt11
I've had the same issue just the other day picked up my meds didnt open until I got home and here it was ipca brand. I called the pharmacy asking to change to zentiva as the other brand makes me sick. They have reordered from ipca to zentiva! There are no issues with zentiva. I think it's based around the pharmacist if they can be bothered, but they should when you ask and tell them the other brand makes you unwell. They have no reason not to order it for the patient. I asked gp and they said pharmacist should just reorder to different brand. All the best
Hi Ilove puppies. Thank you. I'm really pleased you got Zentiva. My local chemist wouldn't order Zentiva and got really grumpy with me. I go to one further away and they always used to give me Zetiva but lately they've been giving me ipca and I have to go through the rigmarole of getting Zentiva and making another pharmacist grumpy!
All the best, keep on going!
I was told I couldn’t get Zentiva, my Gp writes it on my prescription, I was given it
alliance health care stock and supply zentiva to the chemist's. Ask your pharmacy which company they use
I am having the exact same problem. Tried that IPCA earlier this month, as others really really upset my stomach, but this was worst yet. Lesser of 2 e wild is quinoric for me. Keep being told has been stopped being manufactured?? Good luck.
i managed to get some in the end luckily. I'm really sorry you are having this problem.....they have not stopped making them, it isn't true. Have you told your doctor? It's so draining trying to get the right drugs that don;t make you feel ill, it's ridiculous. I'm sure that the administrators of this site would have some advice. All the best, keep going! xx
