How can you tell…

A lupus rash from rosacea? I get this on my face when I am over tired, not feeling well or stressed. It is on both sides, and exactly the same place both sides of my face. If I am feeling really unwell, it gets more inflamed and wider on my cheekbones.

My father had rosacea, and had medicated cream from the dermatologist for it. He gave me some and it didn’t help me at all.

I just want to get rid of it now that we don’t have to wear masks so much anymore (although I still do). People (strangers) have stopped me and asked what happened to my face! It is embarrassing. My family keeps teasing me that I am blushing…when I am not! It gets worse in the sun. Should I see a dermatologist???

It could be rosacea (which is a separate issue from Lupus). Only a doctor, probably a dermatologist, will be able to tell you - after examination, etc.

I have rosacea and a key trigger is exposure to UV light. In addition to how it looks, rosacea can be warm or hot, sore, or itchy. Or all of these things. I use two types of topical creams, prescribed by a dermatologist originally. I also wear SPF 50, etc, everyday from April to the end of September and then SPF 30 the remaining months. I have to wear a wide brimmed hat when out in the stronger UV months and wear sunglasses. My rosacea affects my eyes, too.

However I would suggest that you seek an expert medical opinion. Rosacea can be well controlled if properly treated and managed.

Yes.

👆👍Rosacea must not be confused with lupus.

The facial red rashes are distinct. A good dermatologist should be able to tell the difference. New research now says that rosacea may have autoimmune causation.

With the rosacea and feeling unwell like you do. This is how I started out before being diagnosed with Lupus. Ask your doctor to refer you to a good dermatologist. Good luck x

I use to use max factor lasting performance foundation to cover mine. Good luck with finding a resolution x

You can buy some green foundation coverage from Amazon and boots which helps. I used this years ago but cannot remember the name. It tones everything down.

Hi Willow I was wondering if you got given a professional diagnosis? My GP thinks I might have rosacea but he didn’t seem confident. My rash looks exactly like yours, same shape not too bright, no veins or acne. Am feeling quite puzzled

And what happens if you wear a sun screen?

I have a lot of the same questions you have, and I’ve already seen a dermatologist about what she says is rosacea, but am still unclear.

I am puzzled about my diagnosis because my “rosacea” is always far worse on a small part of my nose than elsewhere on my face, and because the rosacea cream doesn’t (as with you) seem to help completely.

I would like to have some kind of test done to be sure what I have isn’t something malignant, growing on that part of the nose. For peace of mind.

Can anyone say what the definitive test for rosacea is, if there is one?
