Claiming benefits for lupus?

Hello all,

I’ve posted on here before but a while ago. I’m always reading updates . I was diagnosed with lupus just over 2 years ago and it has completely changed my life. I’m wondering if anyone claims benefits for their lupus , if so which and how hard was it? Up to now I’ve not really given it much thought , but recently I’ve had a few people telling me I should be entitled to something?? To be honest I’ve never had to claim a benefit for myself before and I find it all a bit daunting . Thank you in anticipation for any help and advice. Xx

Hi YelloLego

I realise you are not new to the forum, but I wanted to welcome you to the LUPUS UK HealthUnlocked Community. We offer a free information pack which you can download or request at:

lupusuk.org.uk/request-info...

As regards benefits, we have information on the benefits page of our website and you will also find a link to some very informative videos which are also on our website, and which are designed to help you understand the benefits process.

lupusuk.org.uk/benefits/

lupusuk.org.uk/disability-b...

I hope you find the above information useful, but if I can help further, do please let me know.

Kind regards

Alida

Hi YellowLego

Yes I do, I had to stop working due to lupus. I receive Universal Credit and PIP.

You can claim PIP if you're working, it isn't means tested.

It does take a while to go through the process but worth it in the end.

Hope this helps & good luck x

Also I had awful guilt claiming as I had never claimed before and have worked all my life (I was 56 when I stopped working) and my family were very supportive, and convinced me.

I'm so glad I did 😊 xx

Hi YellowLego 🤗Yes I'm claiming. I'm on income support and PIP.

The forms can be quite daunting so get help or ask for help on here to fill it in. There are lots of agencies that can help with this sort of thing.

Good luck 🍀🌈😽😽xx

Hi Yellowleggo This website has a wealth of information on all benefits and can help with all the form filling to make a claim. There's a vip area which you need to pay to access but that's where the real help is so we'll wort it. I've just had my forms for esa checked over by them and they pointed out quite a few things to change the wording on so I'm now confident I'll get the result I need.

Just have a quick look and ask for advice. Good luck.
