Hydroxychloroquine and heart palpitations? I've been suffering with palpitations most days for quite a while and take 200mg hydroxychloroquine once daily since October 2018... May be purely coincidence but having missed my tablet last night have not had any palpitations at all this morning. Just wondered if anyone else taking the tablets has come across or noticed this? Is it possible they are affecting my heart? Ecg while ago was normal which didn't really explain why I keep getting the symptoms.... Any input would be appreciated.

Heart palpitations on hydroxychloroquine?
Thanks for your reply.... Thought it seemed odd felt better not taking it... My lupus marker is significant and he put me on it to parent kidney/organ damage... Will try to arrange appointment to discuss and leave tablets off for a while to see if well-being continues xx

That's sensible, it stays in the blood for a long time, so a break will evidence whether or not it's the culprit while still giving you some protection...I had the same with another med, and GP suggested that if after a week without it, my BP was normal again, then it was to blame, though it was one that is swiftly metabolised
Rheumy asked me to try three times, 400mg, then 300mg then 200, but because it builds up in the blood........the result was the same each time, just took a bit longer as the dose lowered! 😜 xxx
Hi wunder53, I get heart palpitations but not because of taking hydroxychloroquine. It could be anything causing it from taking meds to simply too much caffeine. Your only on minimum dose if 200mg once a day and you’ve been taking it a while. Have you mentioned it to the rheumatologist? You say you have significant lupus, if you stop taking it without talking to consultant what damage will you do to rest of body?
Hi Chris, whilst I'm fortunate to not have symptoms of lupus my anti dsdna level remains significant at 25 and he was keen in 2018 for me to take these to protect organ damage... I will try to get apt with him to discuss it before stopping them completely as obviously don't want to risk kidney damage... It was just strange that palpitations not so bad when missed it... Thanks for your input 👍😁
Hi yes I had the same, I had only taken a couple after being prescribed and by then I felt as if my heart was pounding out of my chest. I ended up in A&E. Thankfully no lasting damage but got a real fright. That was a few years ago and I have a different rheumatologist now who suggested I go back on it. Told her I didn’t think that was a good idea. Everyone is different, sadly some tablets don’t agree with everyone. Take care.
Thanks Froggie 👍😁
I spoke to my cardiologist regarding the whole CDC - Trump fiasco as I had stared HCQ treatment that year , he reassured me it was political , and i was remarkable safe .
If you find the date from the Recovery Trial they were administering up-to 2500mg daily which is well over the LD50 , coincidentally in the original alpha strain oF Covid AF was a leading factor of fatalities

Hi Wunder53

Thanks Alida, will certainly do that before altering anything👍
