Hi all some advice please. I had my first vaccine AstraZeneca back in Feb...all good sore arm nothing else. Then they've said it causes blood clots. My best mate is in hospital with 4bafter having her first. I'm due my 2nd this weekend but havent heard from docs, but also I'm worried about having it due to the blood clots. I know the sats are very low in getting them but even so am worried. Have lupus . My consultant yesterday said talk to the GP as they will have more info.
Should I have the 2nd one as I didnt react to the first? I've also had covid back in April 2o20.
TIA.

Hi, I have had both my AZ vaccines and had less side effects from the 2nd than I did the 1st. I was worried about having the 2nd because of clots as I have APS. so far so good but I have the reassurance of getting my blood checked every few weeks because I take warfarin.
Jo Jerrome, chief executive of Thrombosis UK: "There are no known cases of the rare thrombosis with thrombocytopenia reported after a second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
"The Joint Committee on Vaccines and Immunisation, Expert Haematology Panel and Medicines Healthcare and Products Regulatory Agency, all advise that if a person has received their first dose of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine and did not develop vaccine-associated blood clots, then they are advised to attend for their second AstraZeneca vaccine when invited. The blood clots are very very rare and have occured within a couple of weeks of the first shot. There is no record of it happening after the second one. It was mentioned during the press conference to day. They also said that people under 40 will be offered a different first vaccine if they wish. But the chances of it happening really are very very low - and they know what they are looking for to treat it now.
Ive not had my 1st dose yet but still very sceptical, I know the benefits outweigh the risks but I also have heard it can affect certain people with Lupus in a bad way. Someone my husband knows has been ill for 4 weeks due to vaccine. Also does anyone know if the Pfizer or Moderna are better to reduce thr risks of side effects?
The under 40s in the uk are going to be offered an alternative to AZ vaccine now .I'm over 40 (by quite a bit) have SLE,LN, plus a couple others and have had both doses of AZ without issue or a flare x
Hi.....I also have lupus. I had the Pfizer jab 3 months ago which brought on a severe lupus flare up lasting for 2 days only . Sore joints etc. However with stronger pain relief from my GP I got through it. For my second jab a few weeks ago I took my naproxen daily leading up to my jab rather than as and when required. Must have done the trick to reduce any inflammation as I sailed through my second jab. Probably because my immune system had already recognised the first vaccine. Like you I pondered as to go ahead with my second jab but the advantages out weighed the down side of contracting covid. Hope this is of help
Thank you it is, I didnt react to my 1st jab , but then news of blood clots and made me worry. My best mate is over 40 and had first jab and now in hospital with 4 blood clots.
I too had my first AZ vaccine in February and had my 2nd jab last week. After my 1st jab I was unwell for 2 days - blinding headache, aches & pains, fever. I basically felt like I had the flu. After 2 days I felt fine again. I was dreading having my 2nd jab but this time I felt absolutely fine - no side effect at all. The doctor who gave me my 2nd jab said that side effects are much less likely after the 2nd jab. This also applies to the problem with blood clots. My understanding is that if you were going to suffer blood clots this would have happened after you 1st jab. If you have been fine for all the weeks since the 1st jab you can be pretty certain that you are OK. And remember that covid also causes blood clots. You are at far greater risk from covid than from the jab. I would reassure you and I strongly recommend that you go ahead with the 2nd jab. I felt so much safer after my 2nd jab.
Hey Bulk5160, Just wanted to also add in there that read up on taking pain killers prior the jab as I read somewhere that it was not recommended for what ever reason, I’m not sure. I usually do to take the sting off so I was disappointed when I read it.Good luck
Thank you I've heard people say to take parcentmol before jab, but when I had my first jab in Feb I asked the man if I should take one ,he said no only if you need to?? So not sure.
