Hi everyone,
As I'm sure most of you are aware, following a scientific review of the extremely rare occurrence of blood clots with low platelets in people who have had the Oxford/AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, the MHRA has issued new precautionary recommendations.
The new recommendations are particularly relevant for people with antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) or a history of blood clots in the vein.
We have updated our information and guidance to reflect the new recommendations - lupusuk.org.uk/covid19-vacc...
It is worth noting that the MHRA's precautionary recommendations are not necessarily supported by any evidence suggesting that people with a history of APS or blood clots are at an increased risk of this extremely rare occurrence. In fact, the Expert Haematology Panel endorsed by Thrombosis UK have sent a letter to the MHRA to request they revise the guidance. You can see their letter here - thrombosisuk.org/news/post....
