Pfizer vaccine spacing

Hi All

Just to say that following the news last week about the immunosuppressed and the 12 week spacing of pfizer being next to useless, I called my GP and she put me on the list to get a priority second dose. She also put my husband on the list. Great GP I have there. Thought some others might like to try it xx

HiMy gp prioritised me to have the second vaccine(phizer) as I was starting an immunosuppressant. Thanks to the updates from lupus uk on updates in the green book, I wouldn’t have known. When I told my gp he sorted it out for me.

I got my second dose at 7 weeks. I'm hoping it works.

Hi, I read something that said 6 weeks was optimal but I can't find it now. I found this which explains some of it: blogs.bmj.com/bmj/2021/03/3...

Hi all

I had my second Pfizer dose last week, 5 and a half weeks after my first. I took my dad for his second vaccine and asked if I could have mine at the same time. It’s always worth asking, the answer can only be yes or no! I was fortunate that the answer was yes this time!

Hmm what makes you say "12 week spacing makes it practically useless"? It is simply not true.

Because I read that in certain people who are immunosuppressed that efficacy reduces to 11% protection with a 12 week gap.

So you exaggerated. Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is 52% effective after the first dose, whereas Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine is 64.1% effective after one dose. Moderna vaccine does even better offering 80.2% protection after just one dose. To say that spacing the second does out to benefit the society means vaccines are "useless" is careless and dangerously misleading.

You have added a lot of meaning that was simply not there in what I said. I am referring specifically to effects of spacing of the pfizer vaccine for the immunosuppressed/immunocompromised individual, not society as a whole. I don't like your rude tone either. You can't put quotes around 'useless' when I said 'next to useless'.

You need to understand the facts and read the post with those in mind before calling me careless and dangerously misleading.

Clearly there is substance in what I am saying as government policy was changed last week to start vaccinating people who live with those who are immunocompromised and my GP moved me up the list for the second dose, as well as adding my husband to the list.
