Hi

Can anyone tell me, if when you are told to book in for your second vaccine will the place know if it the same vaccine that you have already had or does it matter which type that you have already had?

Unless there are very good reasons, the second vaccine should be the same as used for the first shot.

Were you given a card saying which vaccine it was - I don't know how the UK system works.

We are given a vaccine card which has all the details of the vaccine you recieved on it.you have to take it with you when you go for your second dose x

How is your system working

Well in the region where I live since it is basically Germanic so quite organised ;) - when we can get deliveries of a vaccine that is.

In the us there will be no mixing of vaccines outside of regulated trials but we also are advised and scheduled to receive or second shots within four to six weeks of the first. Try to get the same as the first. That is all that has been officially studied with double blind studies.

I didn’t get mine through a National centre, but through a GP led centre, where it seems they aren’t giving second dates yet. When I asked why I was told they had been using Pfizer and AZ and needed coordinate supplies to make sure you get the same one.

That is why I was trying to contact the vaccine help line. Grindon Walk in centre have been using both, the vaccine help line told me when I was booking for mine which day that they were using the Oxford vaccine

It is a bit confusing, there’s two different systems (run independently from each other) and two booking lines. That’s why lots of people had multiple letters. Mine was a big GP led centre at a racecourse. I had AZ but haven’t had 2nd booked. However it will definitely be the same as it was all documented & they reassured me I’m in their system and will be called in 3 months for second. Although they discussed mixing them up. I don’t think they are. Our National led centre under 119 number is only doing AZ.

You receive the same vaccine for the second jab to ensure it is efficacious.

I know this as I have family working in the logistics and distribution of vaccines centres in uk and also working as a vaccinator, There could be exceptions in extreme individual cases if course.

Thanks I will look it up, I'll keep trying the number over the next few days so that she doesn't turn up & it not been the Oxford vaccine.

it is recorded on your computer record so when they access it when you arrive, it will say which one you had to ensure you have the same.

Morning... the little card you were given on the first one says what you’ve had and I was told to take it with me for second. According to my grandson, who is a GP in house paramedic, and has been vaccinating people, you will receive the same one second time round. X

Hello Cal66,The system registers you and notes the name of the vaccine. However, if in any case I would double check at the time of second vaccination. If you are in the UK, we don’t choose which vaccine ( I mean the process of booking is not based on the vaccine) but we chose the timing of the first or second dose, from a selection of limited dates/times. If you still have your vaccine card, please take a photo or ask a close family friend to help you take a photo and send it in an email copy to yourself or friend etc. Just incase you may not find it at the time. I am assuming you might have an email if not again please ask a family/friend to keep a copy. Always same vaccine for both the doses. x

At the covid vaccine centre that u go to they should have both vaccines available for this situation so that people can be given either vaccine that they need dependant on which they first had. Unless it is a gp surgery AZ clinic in which they will know to only invite patients who had AZ initially. They can do a search of who had what vaccine and base it upon that but if it's a vaccine centre we have both vaccines there generally.

Will “mixing and matching” of vacs soon be the new norm?🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🤷🏻‍♂️...when they run out of brands?🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏽‍♀️👨‍⚕️🤷

Hi Cal66I’ve now had my second dose of Pfizer, as did my Dad on the same day. The little card was checked to see which vaccine we had both received. It is my understanding that patients will receive the same vaccine for their second dose as they did for their first 👍
