Hi just been told by my ENT consultant that my zinc levels are low. I was just wondering if others with lupus or other autoimmune conditions have had low zinc levels and is it lupus related ??

Oh also said my vitamin D level was a little low but need to follow up with GP .?? X

My Endo found I had low zinc levels last year. I have never had it tested before. I was very surprised as I eat healthily and particularly eat foods that contain a lot of zinc. He also said he thought I had malabsorption issues and I can believe that. Glad it was found before covid x

I too have low zinc levels. Zinc deficiency can be associated with diets low in animal protein but high in phytates. I am on a Whole Foods, plant based diet so it could be a contributing factor. Furthermore, corticosteroids are metal chelating and could also contribute to the problem. So it is somewhat a Catch 22 situation!

I take 5000 IU’s of VitD which keeps me in the higher range of normal.

Do discuss with your GP.

Do you have to take a zinc supplement now? If so, what dose?
