Hi, hope everyone is having a good day. I'm just posting this as a cautionary tale for anyone thinking of trying SAMe as a supplement. It's sometimes recommended for symptoms of depression and pain and is included on VersusArthritis's site. I have been taking this at 200mg a day for the last few days, less than half what is often recommended. For me, it's caused awful muscle pain and stiffness, severe fatigue and such a dry mouth and eyes that I thought I must be getting Sjogren's. Stomach upsets and anxiety are mentioned as potential side effects, but I haven't seen muscle pain listed, and dry mouth only seems to be mentioned now and then. I thought at first my symptoms were due to a lupus flare, but after stopping the SAMe, things are starting to resolve! Phew...

I had worsening of lupus symptoms on it. There is an explanation for that i read somewhere but forget the details. it may be due to problems with methylation-which is a genetic variant.
Same here. I get the worst joint pains and tendinitis with it. I used to take it for migraine prophylaxis and it worked wonders. Now, sends me into a complete flair. I think it might be because it’s a sulfate compound.
