My 12 year old daughter has SLE Nephritis. Her school are facilitating the HPV Vaccinations for Year 8 children. I'm feeling a little anxious that as my daughter has LUPUS, if there will be any side effects of her taking HPV vaccination? Would welcome feedback.
Thanks.

"Warnings and precautions Talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse before vaccination if you or your child • has a bleeding disorder (a disease that makes you bleed more than normal), for example haemophilia • has a weakened immune system, for example due to a genetic defect, HIV infection or medicines that affect the immune system."
Thanks for your reply. My daughter is taking MMF, hydroxychloroquine and prednisolone. I've emailed the Vaccination Team and waiting for a response. I was just wondering if anyone with Lupus took the jab and had any adverse side affects.
The vaccine isn’t a live vaccine so shouldn’t give her any problems other than the normal side effects a vaccine gives. But I would speak to a gp or her consultant regarding your concerns as I don’t know all the details of your daughters case. X
Thanks for your reply. I've contacted my GP (via e-Consultation, as now if it isn't emergency then all queries need to be submitted through e-consult) so just waiting to hear from them.
My understanding in regards to vaccinations and lupus is that if the person is severely immunosupressed, they might not develop enough of protection from the vaccination. For example some immunosuppressed people take two flu shots in order to develop immunity against flu. I dont think there is any difference in side effects. I was taking the same cocktail of drugs as your daughter and that combination didn't make me immunosuppressed (I had normal WBC, lower band, but within normal range). So if you decide to have your daughter take the vaccine, and she isn't severely immunosuppressed, she should be getting the benefit of the vaccine.
