Hot tub problems with SLE in remission

We just recently got a hot tub, and I'm noticing that when I get in it, my feet almost immediately get charley horses, or my legs get achy and spasming. I have SLE with mostly CNS symptoms and have been in remission for about 7 years. Has anyone else had this problem. We don't keep at a high temperature and it happens almost immediately after I get in.

Hot water of any kind does the same to me. I have CNS symptoms with this disease too.

When I have a bath I have to get out in a few minutes as I get weakness and spasms in the legs. Even a mildly heated swimming pool does the same so I can’t go there at all now either.

Hi Nat, In pregnant patients who get calf charley horses frequently, we would have them try calcium and magnesium. Make sure the magnesium is glycinate not citrate because it’s easier on the digestive system. When you get into warm water your blood vessels dilate so it’s interesting you get spasms then. It probably is like you said more of a neuro thing but cal- mag is worth a try. You take good care. XNan

Epsom salts is magnesium sulfate, the magnesium that you usually take for supplement is Magnesium citrate or magnesium glycinate. Epsom salts does not have Calcium in it. Sorry about the confusion.
