Specialist appointment

Hi all

Hope you’re all ok in these strange times.

Had a hospital appointment with my Rheumatologist booked for mid May and due to current pandemic presumed it would be cancelled.

Had letter today to say the specialist would like to do video consultation.

Don’t have a computer so would need to do on my iPhone.

Has anyone done one of these with the hospital??

Didn’t know if had to do anything on my iPhone beforehand in settings etc to set up. The letter just gives you a website that you have to enter 5 mins before your appointment time.

Bit worried it won’t work and it’ll be because I’ve not done something on iPhone to prepare.

Yes I am a gold medal worrywart sadly so I’m already stressing.

Any advise or insight would be fab if anyone has any experience with this.

Thank you

Stay safe 🌈 xx

You should be able to enter the website now to see if your phone is compatible. I do video conferencing but one of my computers (the old one) is fine with the app they use, the newer one is not. I would hope the NHS decided to use phone-compatible apps since by no means everyone has a computer and there isn't much option to borrow one at present! But knowing the NHS and their IT abilities ... ;)

Thank you. Wasn’t sure if I could test the website before my appointment.

I can - it comes up with a sign telling me it is waiting to start - each separate meeting has its own sign-in link. So it is worth the try.

Perhaps you could ring consultants secretary to check.

My appointment has been cancelled,

I did a video consult using ‘whereby’. I just had to download the app but then give permission for it to access camera etc. But, I could not get the sound to work, he could hear me but I couldn’t hear him. Not sure what I had not given permission for in settings. I have an iPhone and bar the sound it was all straight forward.

I had one from my gp when had COVID symptoms. I have Zoom and FaceTime on my phone but it didn’t use either. It worked really easily and just asked me to join him. I had no idea who it was so was quite a surprise when it went to him in scrubs in his room! Good luck and I sure it will be fine
