Have any of you seen this post about the most recent study done in France regarding the effectiveness of hydroxychloroquine against COVID-19

This is a new study out of France that indicates hydroxychloroquine is 100% affective against COVID-19 cases. If this pans out it would truly be a miracle especially for those of us with lupus or other autoimmune diseases on hydroxychloroquine

Yes, and it sounds really promising. They previously used it to treat SARS, with good results, so I’m not surprised to hear it’s possibly effective in the treatment of Covid-19 too. For those of us on just hydroxy and not an immune suppressant, it appears reassuring.

🤩 THANKS ‼️ following on from the links shared here recently about this, your study adds more precise details re course length, dosage, combined therapy treatment etc etc: FASCINATING 👍👏👏👏👏👏❤️🍀❤️🍀 Coco

Hi nanleighh ,

Thank you for sharing but I'd just like to correct you to say that there is nothing in these early trials to suggest hydroxychloroquine is "100% effective against COVID-19 cases".

The studies on chloroquine (a different drug in the same family) have so far shown 'certain curative effect’ with ‘fairly good efficacy’.

We do not know enough yet to say whether this drug would offer a complete protective effect for those taking it or what dose would be most efficacious.

There was a study out of France done this week. Granted it was small but they found 100% of the people given the hydroxychloroquine recovered quickly. It was reported last night on our media by a Stanford University research physician. I realize that more research needs to be done but it’s very promising, a very inexpensive medicine and a very small dose needed.

Hi nanleighh ,

Do you have a link to their published findings? There are lots of small trials ongoing but I haven't seen any suggesting 100% efficacy.

I will try to get it to you, I am not very tech savy. Our president just announced that hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine has been fast tracked for use in Covid 19.

There’s another study out of Australia where they gave chloroquine with an HIV drug which has also had some success. They have all found though that the hydroxychloroquine is better tolerated than the chloroquine.

I've had a quick read. You have to be very careful about paraphrasing. What it actually says is;

"At day 6 post-inclusion, 100% of patients

treated with hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin combination were virologicaly cured comparing with 57.1% in patients treated with hydroxychloroquine only, and 12.5% in the control group (p<0.001)."

It then goes on to mention one of those cases later tested positive again at day 8.

This is a very small trial and also doesn't investigate whether hydroxychloroquine may have a benefit as a prophylactic treatment.

It certainly doesn't indicate that hydroxychloroquine is 100% effective against COVID-19 by itself.

I've also read about the studies going on regarding this medication. My worry is that if it IS found to be effective, rich important (probably healthy) people will buy it all up and they'll be none left for lupus sufferers. My cynicism has reached new heights recently! Maybe we should try and get a year's prescription just in case!

It has to be prescribed by a physician and a very small dose is needed. The companies who make this will have to increase manufacturing of it. I hope and pray you don’t have any shortages.

Good to know it's a small dose!

Indirectly all this extra research may benefit the Lupus community. Best wishes Kevin

It was Gregory Rigano from Stanford University here that announced it was 100% effective. I did not. I think it’s very exciting news and the US FDA is fast tracking the study on this as well as other drugs. I am hoping and praying this is an effective treatment for this horrible disease.

I'm just trying to prevent the spreading of any false information and so want to get right to the source.
