Sorry for my ignorance but I don't really understand the question 'who can see my post, anyone or only community membes. Could anyone explain?
Question about site: Sorry for my ignorance but I... - LUPUS UK
Question about site
You can choose whether the post is available to be read by members of other communities or even non-members of HU. If you choose "my community only" in the tick box then non-members of the lupus forum will only see the title and first line of your comment and be told they must join the community to read the rest. They have to be members to respond anyway.
Always seems a bit pointless to me - there are no restrictions on who may join a community anyway, if someone wants to read the rest they will sign up and even as a locked post it may come up as a link in response to an online search so locking it isn't really a "safer option".
But on the other hand if you google anything relating to an aspect of health then posts and comments relating will pop up in the search engines. So if you disclose any personal or private info or mention of a specific doctor for example - it’s better to lock the post to “community only”.
Fair enough - but it isn't stopping it being seen in the way a lot of people think it is. There is no screening of new members - anyone can join and see it. Which is why you shouldn't share sensitive information except by private messages which only the recipient can see.
Absolutely!
How do I do that please?
Send a private message you mean? At the top of the page (on a computer at least) there is a line with Home, My hub, Chat and a bell with the number of new actions on your forum - click on Chat and a dialogue box appears. You enter the name of the person you want to message and then it is just like posting but only the named person/s can see it. Or you can click on the person's user name on a post/reply and that brings up their profile page with a Message box at the top right.
Cheers should have done that from start
Thanks
I just checked and the HU app doesn’t seem to show the padlock? So there’s no way of knowing if a post is locked or not unless you go through the server rather than via the app.
I have had locked posts included in a set of links for a specific topic - I can see the title and the first line or so of the comment with a message saying if I want to read the rest I must join the community. Which, as I pointed out, is open to anyone without pre-checks.
