Do symptoms reverse themselves?

I first became ill in February 2011 with a tingling, stabbing pain & kind of numbness in my mouth & face causing thickness in my cheeks and tongue. I was treated with penicillin & then carbamazepine. The drs thought that I’d got drug induced Lupus but by December I was diagnosed with lupus and scleroderma. This has affected my oesophagus and my lungs. Being on medication has eased the symptoms especially in my face but just recently my face & tongue have been extremely painful. Now though, the thickness seems to have reduced in my cheeks & tongue. This is a good thing as my face no longer looks as round but I am left confused. I wondered if symptoms can reverse themselves or if anyone else has experienced this? Part of me is waiting to be told that there’s nothing wrong with me.I feel like I’m going mad.
