2 year symptom question, help

Hi all, I wanted to know and would like your advice on PMR. I know what it is, But NO Dr I have ever seen has mentioned it to me when I talk about my symptoms to them. About three years ago, I had to endure neck surgery for my C3-C7 discs. Right after my surgery I complained of pain and stiffness in my shoulders. I had not had this pain before. The nurse, and Dr said that it is from the surgery and it will pass. I followed up for two years with them. Regularly telling them of my shoulder pains, loss of motion, waking me up at night, and hip and joint pains. So they sent me to physical therapy for 6 months. Had mri's done, the Dr said bone spears , the orthopedic surgeon said see your brain and spine Dr. Round and round I went. Now with all the mess I have been posting here these last weeks in the hub, my shoulders are killing me again. Same symptoms, I try exercising, therapy at home, move around, naproxen, just off Pred step down dose, etc.. My wrists are stiff just typing this. Can this just be new pains from my lupus, Raynauds, degenerative disc diseases copd, or something else? I am documenting this event for the future Dr, as again I say, I have no one till August 19th. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated. You all are a world of advice and references. I humbly thank you all soooo much. Keeping the faith, and trying, peace blessings to you all thestorm

Have you had both your ESR and CRP tested lately. They are often used to decide if further testing is needed for PMR. Sorry it has been such a terrible few months for you. For my wrists I always wear wrist supports to sleep and working on the computer or doing lawn work and it helps them a lot. No help for shoulder though. Sorry xo

Hi Roarah, in layman's terms, what is ESR and CRP, remember my mind is in total downslide, I am having brain fog very bad now. And , the wrist bands are a very good idea, I can get those without a prescription. I think I am going to try the sea band for nausea the dizziness to. Now I have chills again and the temp outside here is 91 degrees.. Checking my temp is ok, so I leave the air conditioning and go outside to warm up. I really don't know what is causing all this. I am truly worried at this point, so many symptoms, if I go to the Emergency department, I do not know where to start telling them whats wrong and what brought me there. They will think I am crazy. Thank you all for your kindness, care, and support. blessings thestorm

ESR, known sometimes just as a sed. rate is how quickly your blood sinks in an hour's time and CRP is c reactive protein. Both tests measure for inflamation but the ESR when elevated can be a sign of PMR. For nausea Benadryl or Dramamine over the counter help especially if accompanied with vertigo. Feel better soon. Xo

Hi Roarah, I wanted to ask you, and brain fog stopped me, on other posts you speak of CBT, In that regard, could you give me some more information on the KK meditation aspect. I am open to all possible helping effects to better ground myself. I used to do yoga, but my disease now limit my movements. I want to keep my mind healthy, and also do practice the mindfulness exercises. I would love to know more. As modern medicine can only help us so much. Thank you for helping sooooo much! Xo peace, blessings thestorm

PMR will help assess the functionality, innervation and alignment of your muscles, joints and spine. Why does this matter at all? For your rheumatologist, it helps set a baseline for functionality, pain level and most importantly, any physical findings they may pick up on at PMR.

I am usually a skeptic but I found my appt quite helpful. Went for the dreaded chronic low back pain diagnosis 😬. Learned I had SI joint dysfunction and likely a slipped disc. They gave me exercises to help strengthen muscles around spine and hips. They worked. 👍

I’d say go. If you have cervical back pain you should definitely go!

Sorry I thought by PMR you were referring to testing for polymyalgia Rheumatica

You might be right....symptoms are shoulder pain and stiffness.

Acronyms...they work in mysterious ways.
