Just over 2 weeks ago I started on the Auto-Immune Protocol Diet (AIP for short). Basically it is an anti-inflammatory diet based on the Paleo diet. There is a 30 exclusion period during which you eat only meat, fish, vegetables & fruit. You exclude all grains, dairy, nuts & seeds, beans & legumes and veg from nightshade family. After a minimum period of 30 days if you have improved you can slowly start re-introducing all of the above (except grains). The idea is that in this way you are able to work out what foodstuffs you react to and you avoid them in future. You never re-introduce grains as these are believed to be the main source of inflammation. If you are interested there is a fast amount of info on the internet and lots of people swear that they have vastly improved or even reversed their conditions. Amazon has loads of books on the diet and most can be downloaded very cheaply. I am still on the exclusion phase and it is tough but I have already found a huge improvement in my blinding headaches and I am much less tired than I was. I will assess the situation at the end of the exclusion period. I thought the diet was worth a try as I am still at the stage of trying to get a diagnosis and am not yet on medication. Best of luck if you decide to give it a go.

I have SLE and APS. I did the elimination diet but did add back grains but did not add back dairy. Dairy seemed to be my only failed food source but I limit sugar. I now eat at least 30 grams of fiber per day mainly from all bran and oatmeal, a cup of broccoli and fruits. I am on warfarin so I now have to be very Consistant about my vitamin k intake. I am focusing on food source prebiotics to support a diverse gut flora. I feel great! My vitamin d and bs are up to normal levels, my weight is down to under 22 BMI, my antibodies are disappearing and my mental health has improved as well.

I will be honest I changed a few things after a stroke in October. I added daily exercise, CBT therapy, vitamin d supplements, regulated my sleep and added lots of fiber, via grains, so not sure what worked to make the improvements I have noticed. I assume it was the combination of all these changes.

I also want to add that many studies have shown that meditation added to light box therapy for psoriasis patients worked better and faster than medication and light box alone. Maybe meditation to reduce stress might be helpful for SClE as well.
