Hi. Has anyone followed a specific diet that helps with SCLE? I'm really struggling to control it, any help/advice would be very much appreciated.

The only thing I can say I have found useful is turmeric. I take a supplement every day and it has definitely helped with joint inflammation, specifically my knees and ankles where I had the most significant issues.

I have read that eliminating dairy helps, but I wasn't able to maintain this lifestyle.

Hehe just by having Chocolate in your handle, I'm guessing your chocolate lover too. When I went vegan to see if that would help with my lupus I wasn't bothered by giving up meat as didn't eat much anyway. It was the thought of giving up the white and brown stuff that I thought I couldn't do. I'm not going to lie. Vegan Choc is no where as good as the real stuff. But it is getting better, and as for cheese I prefer violife to normal cheese. Try fruit and nut Nomo choc in tescos it's ok. I was surprised how quickly I got use to not having all these goodies, and my lupus symptoms are the best I've ever been. After yrs of being on a high dose of steroids I'm finally going down to 4mg yay!! Completely agree with you about the turmeric! It's a God send!

All the best x

Hi I don't look at food as helping my SCLE & Sjogrens, but how my body feels in response to eating it. I hide from the strong lights, cover-up, wear 50 factor, most of all take my meds & try & figure out what causes me to better, i.e. food, work, increasing activity, resting when needed...

I finding I have become intolerant of lots if foods - so no hot spices any more 😰, diffently no drinking alcohol 🍺🍻, garlic is not my friend - do I miss garlic bread, most breads & tried various things & an elimination diet to see if anything was causing excessive reflux & it really calmed it down of late.... Look at alkaline foods, if lots of acid reflux...

Keeping it simple & due to sjogrens food needs moisture... ML

I've been vegan for 2 yrs and I know that has made a huge difference in my symptoms and quality of life. I also try the intermittent fasting. Look up Michael mosley 800 diet. There is a section about how that may help diseases. I think it has helped me.

Best of luck x

Hi Jinty

I just eat really healthy and don’t over indulge in anything. Lots of nuts, veg, fruit and a big salad for lunch. I have fresh fish and eggs and beans as main protein source.

I haven’t given up red meat but the healthier I go my body just doesn’t seem to want it anymore.

I also went gluten free 2 years ago and this has definitely helped I don’t think bread is anyone’s friend. Ha ha

Your diet sounds similar to mine and I find if I stick to it and I am reasonably ok.

Hi Jinty56

Turmeric is a great natural way to try and reduce inflammation .

I put it in home made soups .

Try to reduce anything with E numbers and processed food .

Buy organic when possible .

Yes, I use turmeric with my beans, but I use muscle testing to find out how much and when to use it.

Nearly 2 weeks ago I started the AIP diet (auto-immune protocol) which is believed to help those with various auto-immune diseases. I am still on the 30 day (minimum) exclusion phase which I am finding tough but I am determined to stick with it. Already I have found a huge improvement in the blinding headaches I had suffered from for months. I also have more energy and I am no longer taking an afternoon nap. It is too early to judge whether the improvements are permanent but I intend to stick with it for the time being. After the 30 day exclusion period I can re-introduce other foods so things will hopefully get easier. For those who don't know the AIP diet, it is a diet which excludes all foods which are believed to cause inflammation. In the exclusion period you are only allowed to eat meat, fish, vegetables & fruit (with a few exceptions). After a minimum of 30 days you can re-introduce (one at a time) dairy, nuts & seeds, eggs, veg from the nightshade family, beans & legumes and see how you react. The idea is that you will learn which foods you can tolerate and which you can't. You are never able to re-introduce grains. There is lots of information online about the AIP diet for anyone who wants more information. I will report back on my progress.
