Hi Clairesager,

Oooo..that looks uncomfortable. Is it itchy or burning? How long does it last?

Hmmm... was going to say it looks quite a bit like my urticarial vasculitis rashes, but they were fiercely itchy. And they could last from a week to 6 weeks, depending. Have you shown it to your GP?

It has no sensation! My doc thought it was lupus but blood tests were negative.

Well, hopefully some others might have a thought or two for you. I'm seriously stumped. Sorry not to be of any help. : (

I have a similar allergy to codeine and lactose but my eyes swell slightly too. Not itchy or uncomfortable except for swollen eyes...

Would suggest keeping a food and meds diary and ask GP for allergy tests. Do you have a rash anywhere else? Is it there all the time or some times more than others?

Have you been tested for Mixed Connective Tissue Disease? This looks like urticaria (I get this). It's essentially a rash when your immune system goes after your skin (cutaneous effects). It looks like an allergic reaction (and it sort of is without a true histamine cause) but it's your autoimmune issues, lupus or not.

I agree looks like urticaria I get this all the time comes and goes daily. I suffer with rashes every day. Suggest you ask to be referred to a dermatologist who will do deeper tests than the GP

I had blood tests and a biopsy to confirm lupus.

The rash was also on my head.

So please have a look, and if it is do get some help to stop it before it gets worse.

If it is lupus it can affect hair growth.

I wish you well. Mgt

I’ve got sores and bald patches on my head. Had a biopsy which suggested Folliculitis devaclans, but was not definitive

Have you checked out the food you are eating? I noticed that when I eat certain things I get hives on my chest, back, and sometimes stomach, and legs/ arms, and they dont itch often, when I eat things like diary, coconut, bread etc.

I have that same rash. ☹️ I don't even want to talk about my face. At 59 I have worse skin than I did as a teenager. Gets worse in the sun. Can check off every box for lupus except blood tests. I've had both shoulders, thumbs and left knee replaced all before my 50th birthday. The rheumatologist says no to rheumatoid arthritis, it's advanced osteoarthritis and he had no explanation why all my cartilage is disappearing. I'm in the US and limited by Medicare on who I can see. I'm currently on no meds. I have a history of ulcers and gastric bypass so I can't take the desired anti- inflammatory meds.

I have SLE and permanent malar rash. I also get a rash on my chest and neck that looks very similar to that. The rash on my neck is always due to sun exposure (it is only on my chest where my shirt doesn't cover) and is not itchy or sore. There was some mumbling by a doctor that the rash was due to sub-acute cutaneous lupus.

I’ve had all the blood tests for lupus and all negative. Is it possible to still have lupus? The Rheumy assured me it definitely would’ve been picked up by my bloods

I don't really know, for me I always have positive blood markers but I have heard that some people have symptoms even when their lupus is well controlled and markers are negative. I was referred to a dermatologist for the rashes so it might be worth trying to get a referral from your rheumatologist as the dermatologists seem to know more about the lupus rashes.
