After a month of dental infections and worsening sinus infection, 2 unsuccessful courses of Amoxicillin they have put me on Doxycycline for 5 days. I explained I was waiting to see rheumatologist to see if I have in fact got Lupus and was this Doxycycline okay to take and they said yes. Does anyone else use this it's a new one on me. Thanks
Doxycycline : After a month of dental infections... - LUPUS UK
Doxycycline
A dental infection is best treated with metronidazole in my experience. I'm not your doctor but Doxycycline is contraindicated in SLE, it does or should say that in the drug leaflet.
I wonder then if a reaction to it would then indicate there is lupus present
I don't think that would be an accurate diagnostic tool. I might make you feel pretty unwell or it might be ok. Best to check with your GP?
I was prescribed doxy a few weeks ago. Lots of lupies take it without a problem but I decided to run it past my rheumy nurse. She forwarded the email, unbeknown to me, to my rheumatologist. He replied ‘Best not to take. There are are other alternatives.’ I was put on Cephalexin instead.
Doxy increases sensitivity to the sun which of course is bad news for lots of lupus sufferers.
Thank you for that Fennella02 I think I might get my own drug book and take with me so I can do the checking for myself next time !
