I have been in a flare for the past 4 weeks, doctor has given me antibiotics then two weeks of steroids. I had a spinal tap on Wednesday as I suffer with intracranial pressure with severe Papilledema. I woke the next morning with a strange sensation in both ears, it felt like I was under water I telephoned the doctors but no appointments eventually getting an appointment today. He has prescribed these Doxycycline as he says I have one ear blown out and one sucked in . I asked if this could be connected to the tap I had done, as I never suffer with my ears. He didn't really know. Now I have taken two of these tablets as instructed but now keep getting shooting pains in my chest and lung area. Has anyone had experience of these drugs ? 😪

Doxycycline
Hi marcelas
So sorry your going thru such a tough time. I can't advise about the spinal tap as never had one but I can say that I had a flare when taking doxycycline!. It's interesting that you have suddenly had new symptoms after taking a couple of them. You could see if you could get them changed !. Good luck and I hope your better soon. X
I had a course of these recently for an infection and they made me feel really horrible, I did finish them but don't think I'll ever take them again. You really shouldn't have pains like that, when my daughter had a spinal tap it actually gave her an infection and she ended up back in hospital. You should get it checked out just to be on the safe side.
Doxycycline are contraindicated for those who have lupus. I was given them recently for suspected pneumonia and then my gp took me off them when I found out by reading the leaflet that comes with them, because i was flaring. She apologised and told me that it hadn't shown up on her system when she prescribed them, She put me on something else imediately.
Hi Bronagh,
Hope you are feeling better today.
If you have a query regarding the spinal tap, you can phone the health provider that did the procedure. You can't second guess. Did you not get a post procedure hand out?
Phone the department, or consultant Secretary, or PALS.
NHS is run as a business now. You are the customer and need to know the post procedure possible effects.
Take care. X
