Would be keen to hear from anyone with S.L.E. & Shingles. !st time I have had Shingles (S.L.E. 9yrs). A bit surprised at how painful it is & how low I feel. Left side under breast wraps around to spine. On Antivirals & Endep for pain (not making much of a difference) Dr said it may last 3 months. Yikes!

Thankyou Kaz x

It was my unremitting attacks of shingles that led to Sjogrens and Lupus diagnosis. I was put on massive dose of Zovirax to clear it up and then kept on one tablet of 200mg a day to keep it at bay. Can I suggest you go back to your GP practice and insist on Zovirax - he isn’t suffering like you! Don’t let them say it won’t work once you have the break out and pain - that’s balderdash I suffered with it for so long I know Zovirax works to slow the inflammation down and ease the pain. Best of luck

That's really interesting Cas.

I had shingles in 2009..the first illness I had had apart from usual colds etc..I was in pretty good shape!! With shingles I became really ill but stubbornly resisted going to the doctors. I was diagnosed with cutaneous lupus in 2017 and having read lupus UK mags I have a theory that it was shingles which was the start of the long winding road to lupus for me..I was fine before that and my health has deteriorated since then. Xx

Awww poor u!! It's horrible!! I had shingles in 2009 but I didn't get any medical advice..lashes of calamine lotion was all that I used. Mine was over left boob under armpit and around my back...I'm remembering the pain just thinking about it. I still get nerve pain down my left arm and my lupus rash seems to start around my chest area when I flare. U must rest up and wait for it to bugger off!! Xx

Hi I have had shingles too and had to fight with the GP to get an anti viral prescribed. Spoke to an immunology professor told me to go back to the GP and get a prescription for an anti viral it is the only way to stop the virus replicating do not wait for outbreak.... Good luck be very firm with your GP request a second opinion if you are not satisfied.
