Be Careful What you Hope for!

Anyone following my problems with urinary incontinence will remember that I was really pleased to find the NHS will supply the Tena Ladies I have been buying myself. Well, the first delivery arrived today. Three months’ worth. It’s going to be hard to open the door of my spare bedroom soon.

At the moment I’ve built a fort in the hall but visitors and sons may not find that as funny as I do. 😂

PS they actually are Tenas. I thought I’d get an NHS version.

I have SLE....is urinary incontinence connected to Lupus? I suffer with this badly.

I have no idea if it is. I didn’t see my GP for some time, out of embarrassment. She tried two medications which I had bad reactions to, and referred me to a clinic which deals with incontinence. The result, so far, is prescribing for me with all these Tenas and one more med to try.

Really, it’s been treated as a fairly common problem rather than being connected to anything else.

Can’t be a law against possession, at least.

A Tenas fortress? So when you are hitching your pants up in the morning, you can say, "I'm pulling up the drawbridge". x

Well that’s one Tena used thanks to Mike’s sharp wit.

And I just know I’ll be saying that every morning x

Sounds like a useful stash for Brexit

Even better stash than I thought! Just checked the delivery note and I’m three packets of the 48 x super strength short. More drawerbridges for my drawers I think.

I’ve never asked nhs for them but I might. What tests did they put you through? We’ve all been through so many !

It was very straightforward indeed. Now that you’ve mentioned everything we go through, this makes me realise how simple it was.

First I saw my GP to work out whether it was stress or urge incontinence, and I confessed I’d had the problem for about 18 months. My GP decided it was urge incontinence, then she referred me to a centre which deals with incontinence. We also tried two meds which didn’t suit me ( made my mouth even drier and my already low blood pressure lower).

At the centre I was given the usual advice about cutting out caffeine ( I don’ t drink coffee or alcohol but would if my stomach would let me) and I have to give up my measly two cups of tea a day. I had an ultrasound before and after emptying my bladder, then was shown a selection of pads to decide which size is the best for me. They are based on body size. The ones I’ve been given hold 400mls which is a lot.

My incontinence is the sort where my bladder doesn’t always signal it’s full. Or I get the signal too late to reach the loo without an accident.

This is long winded but I hope it helps.
