Somatic is the new term for 'oh I can't be bothered with this feckless female* again' aka somatisation disorder, hypochondriasis, pain disorder,

and undifferentiated.....

patient.info/doctor/somatic...

from 2017:

"The general practitioner's emotional response to a patient can serve as an early cue to pursue a somatisation diagnosis:

A feeling of frustration or anger at the number and complexity of symptoms and the time required to evaluate them in an apparently well person.

A sense of being overwhelmed by a patient who has had numerous evaluations by other physicians."

You've got to laugh! xxx

Hi eekt

πŸ˜ŠπŸŒΈπŸŒΏπŸ¦‹

Here in the USA πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ our doctors call it Somatic dysfunction which means it’s all in your head. It’s shortened from Psychosymatic....nuts.

Had several doctors use that on me before I actually got confirmation of diagnoses.

Hey honeybug, I like the straight-talking of US medics! πŸ€ͺI'm going to put it to my GP that he's the one who needs his head seeing to the next time I see him, because I have a long, long list in my notes - over eight years pre-diagnosis - of very tangible symptoms....not least a deformed nose! 'It's as plain as the nose on my face, doctor!' 😁

Lovely to hear from you! Be well! 😘🀩🌻🌸 🌼 xxx

Hi eekt

Very interesting read, I'm sure if my GPs got together and discussed this I would surely be the one to get the first diagnosis of this at our surgery, I can hear it now. Even more worrying is the fact that I can actually understand this as a diagnosis, it makes sense to me, I'm stressed, I'm in a loveless marriage, I have previously had breast cancer, I am certain I have some as yet undiagnosed disease or illness and won't give up pestering my GP for referrals until I get the diagnosis of such an illness, be it autoimmune or other related to my many and varied symptoms which I really do have.

Very interesting article thank you

There was an interview on BBC Breakfast this morning with the doctor running the clinical trial featuring on tonight's Horizon - placebo and how the brain responds to pain. Should be an interesting watch!

This humongous thread has many thoughts on the organic-'somatic' link:
