Lupus and papelladem
Hi Piperic,
We are not medically trained here therefore we cannot comment on whether papilledema and lupus are linked.
I have had a look in The Lupus Encyclopedia for information on papilledema and lupus. Papilledema is mentioned under the 'headache' section in the encyclopedia. The following information has been extracted from there:
"One cause of headache in lupus deserves special mention: pseudotumor cerebri (also called benign intracranial hypertension). Pseudotumor cerebri occurs in 1% of people who have SLE. It is due to an increase in the pressure of fluid around the brain and spinal cord, causing headaches that are often severe, as well as blurred and double-vision. On physical exam, the doctor will note swelling around the optic never in the back of the eye. This type of swelling in the eye (called papilledema) can also be caused by a tumour in the brain, an MRI or CT scan is performed to make sure there is no tumour. If there is no tumour or cancer causing the problem, it is called pseudotumor cerebri”.
