Since my lupus got worse I can't wear contact lenses for long or everyday. I had an inflammation behind the optic nerve and has left a scar. What you think the opticians can recommend different kind of contact lenses? What is your experience? Xx

Contact lenses
Hello. I wore contact lenses for thirty years until my Sjogrens progressed and I had to give them up in favour of specs. I now have to put drops in four times a day for dry eyes . My optician told me I could wear lenses occasionally but I didn’t think it was worth th effort. I’m used to specs now and really no one but you notices.
I started off with hard contact lenses aged fifteen, changed to soft but started having problems with dry eyes in my fifties. Since being diagnosed in 2007 with SLE and Sjögrens I have given up torturing myself trying to wear lenses. Now 69 I still hate glasses especially when it rains but having comfortable eyes especially when the rest of you feels pretty ropey is important. At least nowadays lenses can be slimmed down and glasses are much more attractive.
I have worn contacts for 32 years and now use Options Premier soft contact lenses. My eyes are certainly drier now especially after the menopause but I now use eye drops (when I get up, when I put the lenses in and when i go to sleep). So 2 or 3 times a day and this has helped a lot. I wear my lenses most days and my optician is happy with the health of my eyes. Btw they are monthly disposables. Your optician will recommend what is best. Good luck.
