Hi all I’m new here I was diagnosed with lupus. 12 years ago and have recently just gone Through a huge flare up. Has been controlled all these years with steroids. But I really really need some advice and support right now as I am in a position I never thought I would iv just found out I’m pregnant was not planned at all due to the flare up and i have been extremely cautious with protection. I’m terrified to go to my doctor or rheumatologist as I don’t want them to make me get rid of it as we have been wanting a baby for the past 8 years and after 3 miscarriages I really want it so bad what do I do😢😢 plz help!!!!

Congratulations on your news. I doubt anyone can make you give up this pregnancy but they can help you throughout to have as pain free time as possible. Good luck, hope all goes well

I can’t imagine they would do that. The quicker you get care the better for you and your baby. It is such a special time just trust that you are going to get everything you need to have a happy healthy pregnancy.

Congratulations. Your medical team is there to help you meet the challenges of life with lupus, not to decide what is right for you and yours. Possibly you might need to remind them of that (!), but in any case, you'll need their help. The LupusUK leaflet might be handy?

My sister was told not to get pregnant. She is now the mother of two fabulous daughters. One pregnancy she finished up on crutches, other was a doddle. Had a flare after first one, second one nothing.

Congratulations!!

Hi Shorty1506,

Welcome to the LUPUS UK HealthUnlocked Community forum and congratulations on your pregnancy!

It is important that you inform your GP and rheumatologist about your pregnancy to ensure you receive the correct advice and support. Informing them can also allow them to carry out any additional monitoring and to make possible adjustments to your treatment. We published a booklet about lupus and pregnancy which I hope you find useful: lupusuk.org.uk/wp-content/u...

Please keep us updated, wishing you all the best!

I agree with the others! Your medical team is there to help you through this illness, not make major life decisions for you. If they pressure you in any way to terminate a pregnancy I would report that doctor immediately and find another! I cannot imagine a doctor doing something like that.

I know pregnancy with Lupus is difficult but getting help early is important. Don't drive yourself mad with stress. Enjoy that something you've wanted for so long has happened!

It is important to speak to your medical team, especially if you are on medication for lupus as certain meds may be harmful to the fetus. They will discuss the risks to you and the baby, and provide advice but I don't think they can force you to terminate your pregnancy.
