Can malaria cause permanent bone marrow damage?

I don't know about the malaria but I was diagnosed with Myelodysplasia about 25 years ago. It was caused either by the lupus that was emerging or a particular kind of antibiotic.

I wouldn't think so. Plasmodium has no way of accessing your bone marrow or affecting genetic code. What malaria could do is trigger an exaggerated autoimmune response. That could then affect the way bone marrow behaves if the autoantibodies affect cells and proteins involved in the production of blood cells.
