I have MCTD and I have had loads of food intolerances in the last five years and it's now getting worse. I just don't know what I can eat anymore. Gastrologist doing tests just now but rheumy doc thinks it's connected but who knows its just a mystery. I'm hoping gastro consultant has the key to my mystery.

Yes. In fact I suspect that was one of my first symptoms pre-diagnosis. I'm on the AIP diet, which seems pretty safe.

What's the AIP diet?

I suffer terribly with upset tummy and gastrointestinal problems.

I've gone gluten free which helped a bit but still having problems and not sure who the correct professional is to visit.

I wondered because I'm immosuppressed whether I was just getting tummy bugs all the time ?

I have been like you for 18 years now and sorry it may appear negative, but I have to manage by continually tweaking my diet.

Virtually no dairy/no grains due to lack of digestion/absorption - occasional piece of cheese, but have been bad after that. I am best by eating fruit through the morning, then a little protein at lunch time - may be a banana through the afternoon and a meal of veg and beans in the evening.

I recently read that people with gut issues have to tweak their diet to suit themselves i.e. no known diet works for them and I have found no doctor, nutritionist or any one else who has been able to help me.

I listen to my body and I would advise others to do this, too, keeping off all the rubbish of processed foods and additives, (but we all have to make up our own mind); especially don't over eat because if digestion and absorption is bad - this can cause more pain, discomfort and diarrhoea or constipation.

Thanks for this reply. I do think I’m better with fruit and veg and now you mention little and often helps too.

Would you believe chicken is the worst thing to upset me haven’t eaten it for over a year now it used to make me so ill

I can’t help tbinking also that taking a cocktail of drugs for 25 years has also contributed.

I can't take chicken either. One doctor said that he felt I was reacting to the antibiotics and hormones regularly fed to animals for consumption. I also feel it is the digestion and absorption, too.

I started with thepaleomom.com, which has lots of free information. I think Cann below is right, every person is different. But I found this a good starting point. Meat and veg (basically) seem to work well for autoimmunity.

Hi there.

I’m still in the process of being diagnosed and suffer terrible with food intolerance. I can’t tolerate fresh fruit or raw veg dairy products.where once It was never an issue. I have been referrred to an immunologist for tests...lots of bloods done and requested Vit D B12 and Folate to be tested too.

I find mealtimes a bit of like a game of Russian roulette as I may be fine with something one day, only to find I am unable to tolerate it the next. My skin peels from my mouth, tongue becomes sore and swollen, Just about given up eating out as I never know how I am going to react.

I also get gastrointestinal problems too and can be creased over in agony within 20 minutes of eating .... was given the ‘IBS’ tag and sent on my way with Mebeverine tablets and Omeprazole for GERD which I don’t think I have and which are not good for the body at all. Not helped, in fact they seemed to irritate my stomach too! 🙆🏼

This is the diet Treetop33 follows 👆🏼

Perhaps a visit to your GP to say you have that you are experiencing these awful problems and need pointing in the right direction for some relief. Although be prepared - you will probably be offered the standard medication for gastric problems and the IBS tag too!

Good luck- its a job keeping on top of everything.

I love the reference to Russian roulette...totally feel your pain. Besides everything I am allergic to prior to being diagnosed I have recently noticed that dairy, garlic, red meats and anything deep fried leaves me feeling like donkey poo. Some days are better than others and I should have bought stock in ranitidine because I swear I feel like I pop them like candy for everyday heartburn from food.

Just urgh!

I was never intolerant to anything at one time. I used to live to eat and now I simply eat to live! Really bugs me. And don’t get me started on excessive wind 💨- Sorry!

Don't apologise - there are 1000s like us and probably millions! We are the ones who share it, though, because we know it is not our faults.

I also have food intolerances, I read the book the fast metabolism which builds an eating plan around removing inflammatory foods from your diet. It has been a game changer for me and all the symptoms that came with eating inflammatory food. The author is Haylie Pomroy

Interesting, we varies so much as we are dealing with a variation of illnesses & medications. I noted that I am more intolerant of food with lots of fiber, so no more brown wheat bread, better with white, oatmeal has to now be refined stone ground (pleased I can eat this).... I stay away from spicy food & sadly found garlic is a big no no now, had a really garlicky pasta & was up all night... As,suggested it now trying to note what's OK & what's not.... ML

I am continually developing intolerances, it started Originally with eggs, cream & milk except for skimmed milk, now it’s cheese and lots more including various antibiotics & other medications. I also have a hiatus hernia & can’t eat most foods, but my new GP has referred me to an Immunologist for tests, so I will have to see what they find out

I actually went to a woman today! She did some electric test intolerance wanted to see if I wasn’t allergic to strawberries anymore, so she did the test and the one massive thing was dairy! It’s the protein in it that my body doesn’t like and it makes sense I always got bloated and felt sick after milk and got headaches which I blamed the lupus lol. And my stomach always bad. She said it’s the histamines is over loaded in my body which can’t process the dairy, and strawberries actually make the histamines come out why I had a reaction that was hives. She said if I cut our dairy for 2 months I can eat strawberries again, and I will feel so much better. But believing the test is another thing could be a scam it was a electric machine that put the food into a bit on ur thumb to see how ur body would react to the machine, but what she said all makes comply sense and I’m not gluten which is a good one 😂

I’m not sure if ur allowed to put links on this forum, but if you google histamine intolerance there’s a lot of information, says some medication cause actually causes this. 👐😐
