Peeling palm

Hey Ladies & Gents

Writing or typing has been kinda out of bounds for me, so I’m sorry I haven’t been able to reply to my previous post replies, this large dry patch of peeling skin on my right hand (writing hand) started to bleed yesterday with movement so typing has been rather painful.

I couldn’t get an appointment with my GP as she’s off for 3 months!!

Tried another Dr but I cannot be seen till next week, so the only alternative was to go & get some dressings from the pharmacy.

The lady assistant asked the pharmacist to come over & chat to me about it. (Which was nice)

She said it doesn’t look like your atypical dermatitis or eczema & to get it checked out properly with my GP. I explained the circumstances with my Doctors surgery, so she decided to dress it for me! As some of the skin has erupted & I am prone to immediate infection.

It simply started with a itchy palm, no rash or skin peeling anomaly, I noticed that my right hand became wrinkly - sounds strange but it looked like my hand has aged phenomenally, After a few days I noticed it had become larger & then the next day or two it started to peel. When I say peel I mean literally the entire patch of skin came off in one complete layer. Leaving a very raw sore & painful palm. Prior to all of this, I noticed I had little hard lumps like nodules under my skin on my index finger & now I have another on the bottom of my thumb. That came well before this...

I haven’t applied anything as I’m unsure

As to what it could be. I’ve had major skin complaints past/present such as rashes on my arms & legs/ulcerative lesions etc. (Scarred for life) but never have I ever had anything on the palm of my hand. I’ve also noticed that the skin on the bottom of my feet is peeling too. I moisturise after baths/showers but my skin is peeling & falling off all on its own.

I wish I had the knowledge as to why this is happening, I’m suffering in silence with so many problems & this has just added to the list of mysteries.

I have many Dermo Base creams, Potent Steroid emulsions & ointments specific shampoo & body wash for lesions etc that I can use issued from a dermatologist. But as it’s not atypical lesion or ulcer that I’m normally used to I don’t really want to use it on my palm until I’ve seen a doctor.

I’ve got some dressings & saline to keep it clean & covered for now.

I know everyone here has some great advice at hand. Full of wisdom & much better at helping me than my own GP.

So if anyone has ever had this or something like it please leave a comment below, I’m clueless x many thanks x

Hey Jazpont, thank you for your reply

It is, my body has been really cold. I wrote a post about my mottled skin. Yes blue hands & feet. Purple inner thighs, mostly purple & blue in colour change. X

I’ve just looked through some of your posts, you describe a lot of my symptoms. Have you been diagnosed with Lupus ? I have severe Livedo Reticularis 24/7 all over my legs / thighs / arms etc. I have Raynaud’s which you describe here! Is this new to you ? It sounds like you have Raynaud’s. There are a couple of other things you describe too.

I’ve just had a referral to the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases under Dr John Pauling in Bath for a my systemic sclerosis (Scleroderma) xx

Hey jazpont, sorry for the late reply.

Last year I was told I had vasculitis & started seeing a ANCA vasculitis specialist in Birmingham Queen Elizabeth Hospital, then I was discharged as I was no longer ANCA positive. I then was tested for lupus & had a range of blood tests that indicated & leaning towards SLE I was diagnosed with SLE but then was told a month later I didn’t have it. Which was a blow to the head. I do suffer with Raynauds, but over the last few months I’ve had a lot of issues with my heart & being cold. I did a bit of research on Systemic sclerosis & it fits some of my symptoms!? I’ve never heard of it before so it’s all new to me, I’m still awaiting a diagnosis.. I’m so happy to hear you have been referred to a great hospital, I hope to one day find a great doctor. Xx

You need to be really careful about infection , if you can’t see the gp would you be able to see your practice Nurse instead. If there is anything to worry about she might call the doctor in to check.

Hey weathervane, thank you for your message.

I’m on the triage list at the doctors today. They Managed to fit me in right at the end of surgery

The patch has turned a bluish purple today so I’m

Glad I’m seeing the doctor later. It’s nice to be understood by people on here because in that Dr’s office I’m dismissed as a loon ! But my hand shows an issue that needs to be sorted they can’t ignore it x

It is funny because i just got an infection in a quick in my finger and it became swollen with pus yesterday. Ive difficulty get to gp as just had nerve root injection so I soaked it 4 times in water , cider vinegar and salt. The pus came out on second soak ugh . Im on biologics, so if it fills up again i will go to gp. Infection can set in so quickly! I hope you get sorted today, please let us know how you get on . Sometimes gp or receptionist can make you feel like a hypochondriac but you do have to be so careful with infection. Xx

Thank you ever so much, your messages mean a lot to me. Xx

Can you get an urgent on the day appointment with GP I wonder?

I don’t think you should just leave this - as Weathervane says it looks potentially infected. Practice nurse?

I used to get very bad pompholyx eczema on my palms and soles when I was younger. One time it looked a bit like this and I ended up with blood poisoning so whatever it is it needs proper care ASAP I would say.

Hey twitchytoes,

I’ve just spoken to the doctor over the phone. I was booked in for triage today. But that’s not happening now. Basically he just asked what the size of the patch was I said 3cm & some, plus he’s booked me in with the nurse on Monday as I’m already having a ECG with her & she can have a look at it.

I expressed my concern but it fell on deaf ears..

Roll on Monday.

Jeez Hun that’s scary ! X

Hi Jazpont! I write just my way to treat the similar conditions I had recently and they are already mostly healed right now, even though there have remained some parts of it. I neither suggest my way nor suggest the other way round. It is so:

I wash everyday my scalp and the whole skin with a herbal shampoo: Ziziphus or Jujube. I use a coarse grain fabric case to spread and penetrate the shampoo into my scalp and skin. I continue until the dead cells are removed, which takes time, I now, but it is the only way to get rid of those awkward sores there throughout my body. Be patient! Surely it works in the long run, maybe in several months or a year!
