LUPUS UK has named Addenbrooke’s Hospital as a LUPUS UK Centre of Excellence in recognition of the Cambridge based hospital’s multi-disciplinary approach to diagnosis, treatment and management of the condition.

Following a successful site visit by assessors Yvonne Norton, Chris Maker and Peter Norton, LUPUS UK is pleased to announce that the Lupus Unit at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, fulfils all the criteria required to become a LUPUS UK Centre of Excellence

LUPUS UK admires the dedication and commitment of the Lupus Team to seeking better treatments for lupus whilst helping people with lupus cope with their illness and live more comfortable lives.

You can learn more about the LUPUS UK Centres of Excellence and their requirements at lupusuk.org.uk/centres-of-e...

Thanks dear misty: am sure their expertise will continue to help me feel better than i have since my infant onset systemic lupus diagnosis was lost back when i moved to the uk at 21. Thanks to Dr Hall expertly recognising the SLE underlying my multisystem debilitation back in 2011, i’ve had 7 years with less pain and more stamina + resilience + comprehension than i have since my teens.

Yes, the progressive damage caused to my body systems by going without daily immunosuppression for nearly 40 years cannot be reversed...but, at 64, i can live with that now i’m in care at my addenbrookes clinics + with my more local NHS cornea expert.

It feels great to attend so many clinics regularly at the same univ hospital, so joined-up care is theoretically more feasible....although i do still v much need to actively work with my fav long-time GP closely and be my own care advocate...thank goodness for this wonderful forum: without your solidarity & coaching i doubt i could feel empowered & informed enough to engage with my medics & play my part in my own care package. 🍀😘🍀😘🍀

I don’t know where i would be If it wasn’t for the team at Addenbrookes! Thank god every day for being under their care. Jane Hollis is my lifeline and is always there when I need anything.

Congratulations! So happy 😁

Hi LouLamb ,

I'm sorry to hear that you don't find your rheumatology team helpful. There are a couple of LUPUS UK Centres of Excellence in London if you were able to travel there? lupusuk.org.uk/centres-of-e...

Hi LouLamb ,

You would just need to ask your GP to refer you to one of them. In NHS England you have the right to choose which hospital you would like to receive your care from. There are quite a few young people like yourself who receive their care at UCLH and travel there from Hertfordshire.
