There is a link with hormone fluctuations to lupus triggers. So much so I had the implanon inserted to stop mine as recommended by my GP. Made a huge difference
Am considering this too - though last time I had it it did not help at all so just weighing it all up 😓
Apparently I am one of the lucky ones that it completely stops my period altogether... so I dont have the hormone fluctuations. With everything else that goes on gotta be thankful for something right hahaha. I also cant wait for menopause. Bring it on baby lol!!!
I absolutely notice a link between flares and menstruation! Not sure whether menopause means It will get easier but let's hope so! X
Looking forword for the menpausal days
Hello
I definitely believe that there is a link!
I think my lupus started after the birth of my third child and apparently women of child bearing age are a common age for lupus onset. All those hormones in our bodies etc.
So if child bearing can be a trigger for lupus then the hormones with a period must have an impact too?
When my lupus wasn't under control, I found my periods getting longer and heavier. I know that I have had 3 children and am now 43, so most people get issues with periods etc as they get older, BUT now my lupus meds are working, my periods are lighter again and don't last as long.
I am tired the week before my period, I find I nap a lot then. But then, like you, as soon as I come on, I seem to be OK.
That being said, my energy levels have been good the last few months until this week. My period started last week and I have spent the last two days in bed. So unsure if it's related to my period or just a little flare up of fatigue and aches.
I have read that the menopause can mean remission for some ladies with lupus however, that being said, there appears to be more and more people being diagnosed with lupus later in life. So who knows? All our journeys are different and none of us have a crystal ball. Just hope.
Best wishes
