Hi everyone, I've recently had a hysterectomy and been suffering terrible menopausal symptoms. I'm considering HRT but have been told it's risky in SLE patients. Any members here going through something similar and able to offer any advice would be gratefully appreciated

Hi
I think it’s a problem if you have antiphospholipid antibodies. Other than that I am not sure.
Good luck

I'm on it and cannot do without! As bacardibabe said its only risky if you have anti phospholipid syndrome. It helps with my brain fog as well as other symptoms. I hope you find something that makes you feel better!
hi overy and part of the other removed. because of endometriosis, after taking 3 bouts of chest pain non cardiac docs said i wasnit to take hrt ,
Hi there - I had a hysterectomy done 4 years ago now because of chronic anaemia, endometrial cysts and fibroids and was told to steer clear of HRT. I do have antiphospholipid antibody syndrome though. It was tough for the first three or four months but then things settled for me and my body found its new normal. I don't feel as though I'm missing out on something but of course everyone is different.
I have SLE and have tested positive for some of the APS autoantibodies (no formal DX since I've not had an "event").
I've been on HRT since last November with no issues. I'm on a twice weekly estrogen patch and daily oral progesterone. (I was also on transdermal testosterone but had to stop since my levels went high very quickly (must be ultra sensitive) which resulted in me feeling very irritable all the time). Aside from that hiccup, which resolved itself by stopping the testosterone, HRT has helped me tremendously.
Thank you all for taking the time to respond. Greatly appreciated xx
Hi primrose9 ,
It is important that you discuss the possibility of HRT with your lupus consultant because they will want to weigh up the potential risks and benefits and make you aware of them. HRT is sometimes given to treat osteoporosis in post menopausal women with lupus, but it can increase the risk of cardiovascular health problems (especially in those with antiphospholipid antibodies).
