Hydroxychloriquine Zentiva update and info. Please all read.

Update for all regarding the suply of our Zentiva Hydroxy, after seeing the posts where some have got their meds again and some still having trouble with the supply of Zentiva/Sanofi Hydroxychloroquine.

Ive given them another ring today back and forth trying to sort my supply out for myself and others. (prob fed up with me calling but hay ho needs must) and they have said its 100% its is available and there is no reason why no one should be without as he double checked and its in stock.

So I said whats the issue I'm still battling my pharmacy who is a (WELL) pharmacy one.

Zentiva have said and could not go into to much details but it looks like all pharmacies who are supplied by Alliance can not get the Zentiva because Alliance use a third party name unknown.......to get if from Zentiva.

Yes I know how many chains is that in a link, So just to make it clear Alliance buy from a company ......................x they buy from Zentiva so the problem is the middle man here.

I have rung my local branches and asked who their supplier is and was told Alliance. I asked them to do a stock availability and found out the following. After finding out AAH don't supply it at all, another supplier.

Wells - No stock (Alliance)

Tesco-No stock (Alliance & AAH)

Boots -No Stock (Alliance )

Superdrug -No stock (supplier AAH can not get it)

Zentiva said anyone who's pharmacy deals with Alliance will probably have issues as they purchase from the middle men in question but we don't know their name to contact them.

If your pharmacy however is independent and is supplied by PHONEIX OR LEXON Then they will be able to get it yay. As there are no issues with them or if your above branch is supplied by them at all as some are supplied by diff multiple ones.

So I went to my pharmacy and said to them armed with my information "ring Zentiva ask them is it available" and they said yes. So I asked when you rung before did you ring Zentiva NO they didn't they rung the supplier who then said its out of stock (so this is the problem when we have been asking the pharmacies can they get it. So I asked who's your supplier Alliance was the answer so I took the number and rung them.

"are you a pharmacy she asked after I explained "No I'm not I'm a patient with a chronic illness which you won't supply my pharmacy. "I can't talk to you she said because you need to be a pharmacy" So where do I go from here.

I am absolutely fuming tamping raging and I'm not leaving this there, some of us will be able to get the Zentiva depending on who our pharmacy is supplied by.

I have the bit between my teeth now, so In the interim while I ask my pharmacy can they go to a diff supplier Im finding a pharmacy who is using Pheonix or Lexon so will post who when I get all the info.

In the meantime to help each other out I am asking you all (thats if you haven't fallen asleep withy very long post. If everyone who is on Zentiva Hydroxcy if you can post if you have had yours and what pharmacy it was from. This may help others find where to get it. i.e., who is using Phoenix and Lexon the only ones without a problem.

Please also can someone get on the case about this from Lupus uk to see what the issue is as Alliance won't talk to anyone apart from (pharmacies with accounts only) maybe you will be able to get to the bottom of it regarding the supply end with Alliance as our heath is at risk here and it a country wide issue.

Thanks all, Willow Wag

Excuse my naivety, but why is the brand Zentiva any different or superior to another make?

Surely Hydroxycholoroquine is hydroxychloroquine regardless of where it comes from?

Bit like buying Neurofen at £2+ or generic ibuprofen at 30p a pack, it’s still 200mg of ibuprofen?! I’ve obviously missed something?

Hi LLH Hydroxchloriquine is made by a few pharmaceutical companies Zentiva, Quinorc and Teva they do contain the same active ingrediant in equal quantity, 200mg of hydroxychloriquine. But there are differences in the fillers, and dyes in Quinoric there is silica (colloidal anydrous silica) this reacts really badly with some Lupus patients depending on each person. I am allergic to Quinoric and so it is very important of me to be able to get hold of the Zentiva tablets with its formulation. I have tried the Teva brand but with bad vomiting side effects. But thats just me everyones different and can tolerate different meds. There are lots of people that take all diff forms with no problems. This is just my reason for needing this brand.

Ok, thanks for that, I’m new on it (2 months) so didn’t know, I was given the Teva brand, good luck.x

I've not really had any problems getting Zentiva brand hydroxy. When Lloyds told me they couldn't get it I stopped my repeat prescriptions being sent there and went to Boots. They don't keep it in stock but said they could order it in. There were some problems in the early days, when they dispensed Quinoric a couple of times, but when my GP agreed to print 'Zentiva Brand' on the prescription there hasn't really been any problems, although I usually have to wait a couple of days for them to get it in. I've been getting mine from my local Boots in Clacton (Essex) for the past year or so.

I have been able to obtain hydroxycholoquine from Lloyds pharmacy in Pembroke Dock Pembrokeshire. I was given Blackrock Pharmaceutical brand and like Quinoric I had a reaction-severe headache, stomach ache and nausea. Lupus UK gave me the information on when it would become available again to pharmacies and they ordered it for me. Apparently it was caused production difficulties. Hope this helps.

Mine comes from an independent chemist called Lo's

Quinoric makes me unwell like some of the others here, and like grannyjogger my gp added a specific hydroxy to my prescription to make sure I dont get quinoric. The name on the foil backing on my tablets is Blackrock Pharmaceuticals Ltd, dont know if that has any significance...distributed by Teva UK Ltd in Eastbourne...

Thanks Willowwag for all your hard work in tracking down hydroxychloroquine zentiva brand. Armed with your info I phoned Phoenix who told me that Rowlands chemist stock this if you have one near you as this is Phoenix own chemist but Boots have an account with them. I then phoned Boots head office who spoke to their pharmacy department who agreed they did have an account and also spoke to my local Boots branch in Maidstone to tell them how to order it. They will not be able to get it from their main supplier Alliance but they are able to order direct from Phoenix. I have returned from the store where they were able to place the order with Phoenix whilst I was there and it is arriving tomorrow. Crisis averted as I run out tomorrow. Hopes this assists others.

Thank you Carol, this could be the life saver for us. I did call Rowlands this morning however they would not confirm until they get the prescription in their hand. It is at least a hope, as I was running out of options in West Sussex.

Will keep you all posted x

Anyone in West London able to get Zentiva? been trying to get it from Boots for the last 3 weeks who have said they can't get it and do not know when it will be back in stock. Get a horrible reaction to Quinoric which Boots kept trying to push on to me. If anyone knows where to get some in London please let me know?

CarolP2390 profile image
CarolP2390 in reply toksying66

Have a look at my post above as long as Boots know they need to order from Phoenix rather than Alliance they can get it delivered the next day. Any problems do say their head office have agreed this can be ordered. Good luck!

willowwag profile image
willowwag in reply toksying66

Thats because your boots are supplied by Alliance and the problem is the supplier to Alliance the middle man, its in stock with Zentiva but Alliance can't get it as for some reason Alliances supplier stopped buying it from Zentiva.
