How many of you had a kidney biopsy? My rheumatologist Dr wants to do it as I have blood in my urine and I am newly diagnosed. I Am so scared. How was your experience and how long did you stay at the hospital? Xx

Kidney biopsy
I have had one Tulipano but it was over 30 years ago so my memories probably aren't very relevant to the way the procedure is done today. I don't remember it being especially traumatic though - it just felt a little odd but not painful. Hopefully others will have some more recent experience for you
(BTW they had to call a doctor in to the hospital on a Sunday to do it and when he came in he stank of drink - don't think that would be allowed today! Still managed a decent job though.)
Hello, I had a kidney biopsy around 18 months ago.
I was so scared, I’m such a baby with things like that 🙈
I can honestly say it was the most painless thing I have ever had done (I’ve had worse experiences having bloods taken) the worse thing was having to lay on your back for 4-5 hours after the biopsy & I had to stay overnight after the biopsy.

Please don't be afraid of having the kidney biopsy, they really are quite painless. I have had two in my lifetime. I was a little nervous for both but there really isn't any need. The staff will explain everything to you and you will be able to ask questions. The most uncomfortable thing is having to lie flat on your back afterwards for around 5hours (this is to stop any bleeding, the weight of your internal organs puts enough pressure on the kidney to stop any). It's quite boring!!!
Good luck, please try not to worry x
Had one last year. They gave me local anesthesia and it was painless. It just felt a little wierd. Honestly, don't be afraid.
