Does anyone meet up for a coffee and chat? Would be nice to meet people who have the same illness.

Hello Sunflower. Which area do you live in? Members of Lupus UK have an opportunity to meet up with others in their area for coffee/lunch and a chat. I have been a member of the Strathclyde group for several years now and have met lots of lovely people and found talking to others with lupus has been most helpful.

Hi

Thanks for replying.

Oh that would be wonderful! It would help me a lot to attend those type of events as I often feel alone dealing with it.

I live in Birmingham.

I hope you find a group near you Sunflower. It's such a help to talk with other lupies. Best wishes.

Hi Sunflower-1 The West Midlands Lupus Group (WMLG) is a branch of the charity Lupus UK. Yvonne who runs the group is fantastic and a real inspiration. There are regular meet ups ... The "Lupus Drop in" at Russells Hall Hospital, Dudley 2-4pm every second Thursday of the month .... next one 13th July. Also the Birmingham contact runs a Lupus support group get together on a Monday which is held at the Toby Carvery, Wheatsheaf Junction, Sheldon. (I think it's usually 12 -2pm and the contact does one once a month when she can) .... I live in Wolverhampton and find it's great to be involved with WMLG I haven't got around to getting to the Birmingham meet up but I do try to go to the drop in when I can. Here's link to WMLG website. I'm sure Yvonne would be happy to talk to you and let you know the full details about the Birmingham lupus support, and the Birmingham contact .... westmidlandslupus.co.uk/

Yes there are quite a lot of local Lupus UK groups...they tend to meet regularly for, 'coffee & chats' like Ellen's and they tend to hold various info events, fundraisers etc, produce seasonal newsletters... My Cambridgeshire local group means a lot to me.

Here is a link to the local groups listing on the Lupus UK website:

I joined a fibromyalgia group because there isn't a Lupus one in my area. I've met 3 fellow lupies who did the same thing and we have a great time meeting up.

Hi Sunflower-1,

Here is a link to our ‘Regional Group Finder’ on our website where you can find a local contact who you can talk to over the phone: lupusuk.org.uk/regional-gro... . We also have trained contacts who are volunteers, who generally have lupus themselves; they are not medically trained but are there to offer support and understanding. They will also be able to inform you about any upcoming local events or meetings which you may be able to attend. If you need more information you can email me at chanpreet@lupusuk.org.uk
