Hi Can anyone help me. My hair is thining so much... - LUPUS UK
Hi Can anyone help me. My hair is thining so much. Are there any products i can buy to help this loss. thanks
Hi Kimbo - I was a qualified hairdresser and I am very reluctant with regards to some products which claim to regrow hair. Once the follicle has died or been damaged hair will cease to grow from it. However, with age and certain medications can affect hair growth/thickness over time. I am 40 yrs - but due to a very severe flare of Lupus Oct 2010 and treatments that I was given my hair came out in clumps. I had very thick should length afro hair which took me 8 yrs to get to that length. but approx 10 days to loose. It has grown back - approx 2 - 3 inches but is noticeably thinner and very brittle lol! So I intend to either keep my hair short or use extensions for a change. Is this a possibility for you? Even the affects with clip on extensions are very good - and your local hairdressers would be able to provide you with further information on this? Good luck and let me know how you get on! lulabelle
thank you for your advice, its really reassuring to know that. i was debating going short and now think perhaps thats the best way forward.
thanks again
Hi, Im still unsure if I have lupus and my symptoms are only mild. But seen this post and wanted to help. Clip in extensions are great (my mum has alopecia and when she was going through a re-growth faze used clip ins and couvrey cream and main spray. But that got very messy and hard to live with. Also with clip ins if your hairs thing that can be hard to disguise. Theres a new thing out called a halo which should help! They are about £60.00, have a look on you tube.youtube.com/watch?v=w8rWBq7...
I think Remy also make these which is a great provider of real human hair. halohairextensions.com
Hope this helps
I had my hair cut short when it was thinning and falling out in clumps. Then I invested in some semi decent hair extensions. They clipped in, luckily for me after i was treated and relaxed my hair got thicker again and I take Hair and nail supplements xx. Take care xxx
I've had my hair cut short as well because my hair is so thin and you also need a good hairdresser I was going to invest in some good wigs just for special events
I have been seen at St Thomas' for hair loss where I get a Rx for 5% Minoxidil (usually for men only as there are definite probs taking this level for women of child bearing age). It has helped a lot --not completely but had had obvious regrowth. Also when I lowered my plaquenil my hair loss increased, so that was brought back up to 200mg one and 400mg alternate days. Before I asked for referral to Hair Clinic I was using scalp cover methods (various cosmetics) which helped the scalp showing through, but not the hair loss itself. I am very pleased with the results I have now but this treatment only works as long as the Minoxidil is applied daily (forever). I was very very depressed from this aspect of my condition but am less so now. Hope this helps. PS I also considered wigs and hair replacement and will do so in future if necessary. Not thinking about it at present though. Good luck.
Just to add the Minoxidil from St Thomas is produced on site is paid for at a rate lower than over the counter (though not like a regular NHS Rx) I suppose it matters what your level of hair loss is. Mine was at stage I / II
I'm the same as JSue. I saw David Fenton at St Thomas' - he prescribed Minoxidil. It is a bit of a faff and leaves your hair looking and feeling like candyfloss (dull), but it does work after about 4 months. A bottle costs £16 and has a shelf life of no longer than 3 months.. Iron, B12 and zinc deficiency can also cause hair loss/thinning. He does the bloods for those. Good luck with your appointment.
