Hi everyone, I was diagnosed in 2011 with SLE as the years have gone on my health continues to be a problem, over the past 4 weeks my teeth have become so sore i've been to the dentist who has taken x rays but there wasn't any thing on them to cause such pain, I've been taking a Azathioprine 75 mg twice a day for 5 years does anyone else with lupus SLE have this problem?
Hello hate to hear about your pain. It could be coming from your bones. Lupus mess with the bones and the mouth is no exception. Many of us have teeth issues. I actually had issues before I found out I had Lupus. My dentist couldn't understand how a tooth could be fine and 3 wks I'm calling him saying I have pain and looseness and he checks and it's looks perfect but you could wiggle it and it could come out. He was puzzled for this began to happen often. I later found out after having to get a partial that I had Lupus. Then 2 wks later read and artical in a Dr's office how a lady's dentist discovered her Lupus.
RONDA MY TEETH WELL GUMS ARE RECEDING LIKE MAD WITH AN AWFULL TASTE IN MY MOUTH DO YOU GET THIS I HAVE TO GO IN FOR TWO REAR TEETH REMOVED BUT THEY ARE ALL COMMING LOOSE AS THE GUMS RECEEDE.
Yes. I get that awful taste and dry mouth. I've tried that mouth spray and it tasted horrible. I often brush my teeth 10x a day. Would love to find something that works. Also I currently have both dentures because my teeth were literally falling out. Perfect teeth but the gum bones couldn't hold them. Steroid and some meds didn't help. Hope you have a better outcome. Your dentist does know you have Lupus right?
Hi all, thank you for your replies. Non of my teeth are loose and the x-ray didn't show anything wrong with the gums or roots to cause the pain xxx i've started using sensodyne to see if that helps.Have a good day xxx
I have attended the rhummie for a number of yrs but was told I don't have lupus classed as uctd with only a high ana and my mum and her sister both had lupus now I have to get 3 of my front teeth out because they are very shakey I have never had a prob like this before but I did not know (lupus/uctd) could cause this thx for this info
Sorry to read about your teeth problems and the pain. Hope Sensodyne helps. If not I can recommend an anti- bacterial toothpaste and mouthwash called Biotene which might help keep the inflammation down and help the pain. You can buy them in Boots. They've transformed my mouth as I had painful problems for years!.
your taking quite a low dose of Azathioprine and having other health problems so I'm just wondering if it could be increased?. Are you due to see your Rheumy?. Might be worth telling him the problems because if we have inflammation generally it can easily affect our mouths and cause a lot of problems!. Hope you get an improvement. X
