Lupus Nephritis: can a lupus nephtritis patient... - LUPUS UK
Lupus Nephritis
I have always been under the impression that anyone with a medical condition is exempt.
However, there is this paper:
Ramadan fasting and patients with renal diseases: A mini review of the literature
Afsoon Emami-Naini, Peyman Roomizadeh, Azar Baradaran, Amin Abedini, and Mohammad Abtahi
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...
and this one:
Ramadan fasting and chronic kidney disease: A systematic review
Nicola Luigi Bragazzi
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...
in which they really come to the conclusion that it depends on the renal disease and close monitoring by the physician is important. In some cases the restriction of fluids during the day may cause problems. In the second it points out that most studies have been carried out when Ramadan falls in a cold period - and you cannot extend the results to hot weather. The renal diseases mentioned do not include nephritis as far as I could see.
So really - ask your specialist before making a decision.
Hi Sle_remission , PMRpro has provided you with some excellent information and advice. It is really important that you check with your consultant because the potential risks will vary between patients, so you need an expert opinion for your individual case.
The Koran is very clear: those who are ill (permanently or temporarily) may be excused fasting (if your illness is temporary, you are expected to fast when you are better). Instead, it is strongly suggested you feed a hungry person for each day you miss - and by that, it means what would be a proper meal for you, not just a bag of pasta
In the light of holy Quran: [2:184] Specific days (are designated for fasting); if one is ill or traveling, an equal number of other days may be substituted. Those who can fast, but with great difficulty, may substitute feeding one poor person for each day of breaking the fast. If one volunteers (more righteous works), it is better.
I hope that helps. I am not Muslim myself, but I have a great many Muslim friends and we have discussed this at length. Good luck!
If you can't keep them and you feel like it will get your health worse then don't , I have sle and so far Iv been fasting with out any problem first time in 3 years Iv done this year good luck
