Hi

I just started vit D last week,  but I am a little uncertain if they are agreeing with me. Sunday, Monday & Tuesday, I was feeling light headed, wobley & not very well & so didn't take any on Wednesday & still felt like that, I took them today & was not too bad. However I have got a bad chest & just getting over a chest infection & so that is probably the reason that I was feeling so rubbish. Had I not had as many drug allergies,, then I probably would not have considered that to be the reason & jumped to the wrong conclusion.

Sorry I haven't had the same problem as you are.

Cal66  ,

Thanks for sharing your experience.  Just want to know if it is one of the side effect.  I might call my GP if it keeps on.

Hi Vambat, I get a defo boost from my monthly Vit D but I don't know what the usual dosage is, or what is high. Can I ask why you feel your dosage is so high?

I think a chat with your prescribing doc could answer your question, and maybe result in a lower dose?

Good luck

Footygirl  ,

I received a letter from my GP after a blood test, saying that I am very deficient in vitamin D - Serum total 25-OH '14' A prescription of a high dose vitamin D, Colecalciferol 20,000IU x 3 once a week for 3 months, then Adcal D3, twice a day.  Last Tuesday is my 2nd week, still have headache and toothache plus ear-ache now :(

Hi vambat,

Most people do not commonly experience side effects with vitamin D, unless too much is taken. Some side effects of taking too much vitamin D include weakness, fatigue, sleepiness, headache, loss of appetite, dry mouth, metallic taste, nausea, vomiting, and others. It may be worth discussing your symptoms with your doctor to see what they recommend.

Paul_Howard ,

I do have vomiting and dry mouth too and starting ear-ache now. I only received my prescription by post after a blood test, I tried to call my GP, but he's on holiday after my visit, I left a message to request a call back, no luck at all. Will see my Rheum on Monday, may have advise from him

Hi Vambat,

When i started taking vit d it gave me terrible headaches so i now cut the tablet in half and take one half with lunch, the other half with my dinner and i dont have any trouble any more.

Dont know about the toothache tho.

Hi, I have had problems with taking vitamin D. I was told to take 3200 iu of Fultium-D3 daily. However, after 4 days I was getting dreadful stomach cramps. I thought it was a coincidence but stopped taking it and tried again after some time. The same thing happened. I stopped again and did see my GP. I was told it was unlikely. I tried for a third time and the same thing happened after a few days so I have now stopped with this brand. There is definitely something I was reacting to. I have now found a brand that is Free from Gluten, wheat, dairy, soya, yeast, preservatives and colours and I have had no reaction. I would suggest seeing your GP. Good luck - I hope you manage to sort it out soon.

Loopy-loo ,

Thanks, am now waiting for my GP calling back after his holiday.

I was just about to make a comment that matches with what loopy-loo has posted - a very common problem with many such supplements is not the substance itself but what are called the "fillers" used to make up the bulk of the tablets. Different companies use different things - and that can lead to the difference between one supplier and another working or not working or causing side effects or not.

But as someone else asked - what dose are you on and why do you consider it high dose?

PMRpro ,

I took your advise asking the pharmacist how to take my new prescription.

A letter from my GP saying that I am very deficient in vitamin D (14), then he send a prescription mentioned high dose vitamin D, Colecalciferol 20,000IU, take 3 once a week for 3 months, then Adcal D3, twice a day to m .  Since then I suffer headache, toothache, vomit and now ear-ache. Hope he will call me back soon
