The dog ate my Azathioprine

Whilst I was sorting my medication out this morning I accidentally dropped one Azathioprine tablet and the dog got to it first. Anyone want to know what it does to a 1 year old Staffy boy? He's had a damned good clear out :(

Made me laugh but so glad he got rid of it all and is none the worse!

Our young border collie would eat evrything when she was a pup, house plants, carpets, skirting boards, even a morsel of tasty plaster from the wall- but my pills - no - thankfully.

She would sniff in my pill box when I was selecting the day's dose then literally turn up her nose( a dog's snout can actually turn up , as I discovered). Then she would look at me with utter amazement in her eyes," How can you eat those, can't you see they are vile , vile vile"!!!

Exactly, he won't take his own pills.

Pleased to hear he's ok.

I've had close calls with our dogs, especially the pup. Luckily up to now I've got there first.

Sorry but I'm no help re what it would do, I suppose it depends on the dose they managed to get. And if it's anything like our Staff they are stocky dogs so have that as an advantage.

Bet he's sorry now, back to the garden lolx

It maybe worth contacting the vet as it is an immunosuppressant, just to be on the safe side. My Russell's immune system was floored by a drug (though not azothiaparine and more than one pill) and you would have thought she was fine until she was nt. Even then the symptoms of fatigue and just looked off were vague. If she had treatment early it would have made a big difference. The vet should know the effect of drug by dose and weight.

opps this did make me smile (sorry) i know how scary it is when your beloved pet eats a tablet and you think oh my gosh will it hurt them. I did the same thing with my cat and the same thing happened to her. Hope its stopped upsetting his tummy. Great post. x
